Grain & BRF jars updates, observations...input?

We're moving here in a couple weeks and wanted to get some jars going so they could colonize during the move. Did a few BRF with my lady to get her feet wet and some grain jars as well. Have a few questions/observations and any input/help or words of wisdom are always appreciated.

-Sometimes see a light layer of "cobweb" mold(I think) sitting on the top layer of the grain. Sometimes see this in BRF as well, usually sitting on top of, or in, the dry verm at top layer. What causes this? Is the jar now contaminated and must be thrown out?
-At any point during grain colonization, would shaking the jar(break up the grain) help distribute inoculated grain through out the jar? I thought I had seen or read something about "at 10%, shake to distribute grain".
-This is more of an observation, curious if a mycologist or trusted cultivator could wise me up. The BRF cakes growth, I can see the little strands of mycelium making it's way across the BRF. But with the grain, I don't see the strands of mycelium as much as I do in the BRF cake jars. However, the grain jars growth is strong. Curious what the cause of this is?
I know I'm splittin hairs here, but anything that you can pass along is greatly appreciated.
Thank you brothers and sisters

First off, why are you colonizing brf in quart jars. That will take a long time to fully colonize and it'll be hard to birth out of that sized jar without breaking it. - For the grain jar, sometimes individual grains dry up on the top of the jar and the mycelium can't colonize those as quickly, and it forms a light film over the surface of the grain. Post some closer pics to be sure its not cobweb, but that jar looks healthy, good job! - Shaking the grain jars around 30% is advised, but you can shake before that also, it will greatly speed up colonization times! - Mycelium colonizes brf and grains differently. They both look healthy tho, just don't expect that brf quart jar to colonize as fast as the grain jar

The brf pint jars iare a total experiment(have done half pint jars every other time)...wanted to see if I could pop em out without breaking:) I'll take a closer pic of the top of the grain and post soon.
Will keep the 30% in mind for next time to help distribute and speed things up.
Thank you for the input!

Yeah man shake that grain jar. Rhizomorphic growth can happen vs tomentose growth depending on the nutrient value of the medium you are colonizing. It also depends on the culture used, genetics, etc... Lower nutrient agar solutions will usually show more rhizomorphic growth for example.
