Medium term Anti-psychotic use, recovery/detox + Psychedelics
    #22097563 - 08/16/15 04:55 AM (8 years, 5 months ago)

Hi All,

Unfortunately have been diagnosed schizophrenic (would previously hear voices) and am on 400mg depot of abilify monthly to treat. Pdoc has just lowered my dose due to the sides I am experiencing.

I don't agree that I have a mental illness, feel this medication as being a bad thing overall, but am stuck on it for a while longer. Feel more disconnected from my soul, and that the medication has bought on negative symptoms of schizophrenia.

Have attempted LSD & Shrooms with diminished effect since being on the abilify - nothing like I would experience prior to starting on 'meds', just wanted to know how people recover from this stuff? Is it possible to detox pharmaceuticals? Has anyone been in a similar position, came off the abilify, and had their spiritual feelings/emotions restored?

Appreciate any knowledge on the topic.

Peace

one of the ways to come off meds and the way Ive done it in the past is by fooling your body so what you do is take a full dose then every second day take half the dose, when your comfortable with that cut it down and do the same on that dose.

Schizophrenic here.
I tried three anti-psychotics and I truly believe they did NOT help but made my symptoms much worse... that is until I got put on Clozapine, which is a anti-psychotic for treatment-resistant schizophrenia/psychosis. Clozapine has been nothing but great.
I started on 300mg daily, two years later, I have been dropped down to 200mg daily and I don't always take that dose. Maybe 100mg to 150mg daily.

Recovering from such illnesses also requires help, not just from medication, but also yourself. You get the chance to rationalise and think logically that the medication allows you to do. This plays a major part in recovery. For example, when you get disturbing thoughts/voices such as "I am being followed!" or "I am a bad person!", you can go over the thoughts in your head and go "No, this is just my illness speaking, I am not making sense."

I plan, EVENTUALLY, to lower my dosage slowly over the next few years (like I have already been doing) and with great hope, get off the anti-psychotic, or even, get my dosage extremely low, to say 50mg or 100mg daily. Smaller the dosage, less side effects.

:super:

I got put on Levomepromazine after a few episodes of psychosis, and have been on it since the last time. Since I've been on it, there hasn't been any psychosis-type episodes, so I guess you could say it's working. I do think though, that it dulls every emotion, not just my anxiety (which is why I am still on it) but every emotion, and it makes it hard to really 100% enjoy something, but when I look at the pros/cons, the meds make things better.

If you don't like the meds you're on, maybe try something else? Also go along with what the doctors say, even if you don't believe it. They don't like people telling them what is/isnt right. Once you get in the doc's good books, you'll have a lot more choice as to the meds/doses.

Try a lower dose first?

Also, Maybe Psychedelics aren't the best idea if you have this type of mental illness... Whats more important, a good trip, or good mental health? The drugs aren't going anywhere, you have your whole life to enjoy things like tripping; Establishing good mental health should come first.

Clozapine. :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

It has done wonders for my brother (I honestly thought he was fucked...) and I've been seriously considering just admitting I have the illness (despite knowing there are some head injury factors here) so they'll put me on it, because my motivation is dangerously low. Dangerously? I mean I think about killing myself every now and then, but brush it aside. If I wasn't so impressed by the magic of reality I might have followed through by now. Life is something worth living for, but fuck it's a shame when you feel like lying in bed all day because of biochemistry.

If they're on your back saying you HAVE to be on something, kick up a conversation about clozapine. It's basically a wonder drug, and the only wonder drug, for schizophrenics, especially the negative symptoms.

I have had very little change in perception and cognition on mushrooms this last season, as I too am on 400mg depot Abilify. I'm wondering if clozapine might be different... Abilify and clozapine work very differently, and then there are lots of unknowns about how these things work in the brain so there's a chance clozapine could co-exist with a trip.

But yeah if you get on clozapine you might not even want to trip so bad anymore, you might want instead to go see the world or study or work your ass off, because all the motivation and emotional spectrum will be there again.

Clozapine is magical drug. Unlike other anti-psychotics, it has very little side effects for me. In the beginning, the sedation was horrible but that eventually subsides
