Any recent feedback on Cordyceps work?

Is anyone following Shroomery now keeping up with Cordyceps sinensis or cordyceps militaris news? I am just wondering what the chances are of growing them for production and medicinal uses. Please advise. Thanx.

people have been growing militaris for a while now. it seems popular in asia. i know of a company in california marketing it quite sucessfully as a racing horse supplement, and as an energy supplement at gas convenience stores. you probably have good chances of fruiting it if that's your goal, by using a wild clone or multispore culture.

I assume you are speaking of growing fruit bodies. Cordyceps actually have the medicinal properties in the substrate and not in the fruiting body. The medicinals are the metabolites responsible for guarding the moth larva from predation. That is why the moth larva is always seen in perfect shape with the fruit body sprung from its head. These metabolites are in the mycelium. All you have to do is sell your body to get the 3500 for the Aloha strain (j/k). That is the price for there proper sinensis strain that has the same properties that the wild strain has and then grow out the mycelium for powdered capsules. That is if you want to grow it for the medicinal benefits and not just the fruiting bodies.
Hope that helps buddy.

$350 seems excessive.
I recently bought Cordyceps Militaris from another vendor (one of the shroomery sponsors I think they are still a sponser) for like $19.50 for liquid culture.
I have been too busy to start working with it yet, so I cannot testify to it's viability but I would spend $19.50 and give it a try before I would spend $350 on a culture.
I am not sure what the rules say about posting links to vendors etc... so I will PM you the link if you like.

AMEN brother... a culture worth that much just means that a lot of professional work has been put into it. You can't even compare those strains. different league all together.

With all due respect to other opinions, I still think $350 is excessive... at least in terms of an amateur mycologist like myself trying to learn and develop a growth method that works for me, in my environment etc... Now once I have a technique down that I have confidence in, well maybe then I could see spending $350 for a culture but I doubt it.

To each his own right? I wouldn't spend that much without serious consideration or reason - such as a business venture. There are many cultures available to play with that are cheap and great. But if you are talking the premo sinensis. You are dead out of luck. because only they carry it for sale and it took them a hell of a long time and resources to get it going in culture. The culture you are talking about is militaris. which can be found for cheap and is widely available.

While $350 may seem excessive, if you plan on using this culture for mass production it would be money well spent because every ounce of extra growth is going to increase your profits substantially. On the other hand I think that if you're planning on growing this in small batches or just for a fun project you would be much better off purchasing a culture that is substantially cheaper - it will still likely fit your needs it just wont be on the same level as an Aloha strain.

I begrudgingly agree that for mass production purposes $350 for a culture could be worth it.
