Your link doesnt work for me , but this link work .

Uvsterilization is for liquid sterilization media , i dont think it could work for mushroom substrate except for liquid culture .
And how many does cost ?! , how many u must change lamp ?!... I find Pcing more cheap and useful , but im not really sure !

Is it a UV-B lamp or a UV-C lamp... most likely a UV-B which is the common black light that you would buy at wally world. A UV-C lamp is used for sterilization.

Actually, it is for any surface or substance which can be penetrated by the UV-C light.

Yeah, just a UV light won't do much, they can be bought for fish tanks and whatnot. UVC will kill many surface contams. I don't think the originator of this thread was referring to using UV rays to sterilize substrates but rather just workspace surfaces. I have never personally used UV for any of this and haven't heard much of its use either. I think because it may be rather harmful and unsafe it isn't a very popular means of sterilizing areas especially since IPA will do the same thing in the same amount of time without any ill effects.
(Although I have heard UVC's used in front of the filter in flowhoods will greatly increase the life of your HEPA)

Peace - @cro

UV light is a good aid for sterilizing surfaces, but you still need to wipe them down. The UV-C light isn't powerful enough to kill everything except maybe if it's only like a couple of inches away.

can a powerful UV-C light be used in a grow room when its not occupied to help keep the room clean (obviously only when a person is not in the room)? If so, how powerful would it have to be to be effective?

You'd have to have one hell of a light bulb (probably many) to do much of anything for a whole room. A small HEPA filter running would probably do more.

Sunlight is a strong source of UV-C isn't it?

Yes and no. Sunlight is indeed a strong source of uv-c, the only problem is is that by the time the sunlight gets to the surface of the earth, virtually all the uv-c has been absorbed in the upper atmosphere. Otherwise the surface of the earth would be sterile much like the surface of mars.

I saw that UV sterilizer in a hairdresser and it looks like an oven. They use it to sterilize shears and stuff like that. You give light for a very short time and it's done.I thought it can be used to sterilize grains, too.(faster than PC),however it works with short radiation containing light by destroying the membrans and cells of all kinds bacteria,so it can be harmful for organic material ,too.I don't know probably some experts here can tell us.Btw I don't believe hairdresser gave too much money for it as they have 2 of them...

This topic has come up way too many times and has never gone anywhere. All I can say is massive mutations if you use it in a grow room. The only good use I have found for UV-C is such as in a flow hood but doesn't do much for overall sterility.

Yes, but they produce a bit of ozone as well. You will need to vent to be safe. We used to have UV-C lamps hanging on the walls in the lab I used to work in to cut down on surface and airborn contams.
