Don't make decisions based on one reply from a noob. Get a general consensus first. Wrong answers usually get weeded out fast around here.

i followed franks advice by stuffing the top holes very loose and the bottom holes are as tight as i could get them w/o a large plume of poly jutting into the chamber. there are evap rings around the polyfil holes but i can see the substrate is starting to dry, what should i do? the myc has been cottony since i spawned it.

Don't fan a mono if its drying out. Mist it and stuff the bottom holes tighter. If you are running a fan then turn it down a notch. Hell I never even use a fan myself.

my fans are probably the problem, its always hot as hell in my room, 77-79 so i have my ceiling fan running on like medium and my box fan on low. so you think i should mist, is there a chance misting will lead to drying out the sub?

No misting tends to do the opposite of dry out the sub

You probably misread. Misting and an improperly dialed in fruiting chamber with more FAE than the sub can handle will result in matted dead mycelium. But that is not the fault of the misting, drying a chamber and substrate out is bad no matter what.

The trich on my Shitakes does not look like this. I am a newb when it comes to fungus but I did not notice any white fuzz before it grew. It just appeared green. Take this with grain of salt.

You don't need to mist a dialed in monotub, the water will wick away and create humidity. Only mist a mono when it's dry (No surface beads). Sometimes you'll get a pinset that's so intense it will suck all the beads of water into the substrate to support pin formation and mushroom maturation.
These cultures generally do better with misting but if you don't have one of those then misting is an unnecessary step.

yea ive already dialed in my monotub, following franks tek, i im in the situation where i have cottony myc balls all over my sub, to me they look like primordia, but they've been there for a few days now and pins will not form pins.

I don't see primordia,
Cottony balls is normally bacteria.
This is primordia:

You see the little white balls?

should i go get a 6500k light and let it run over the tub all night to try to coax pinning with the light all night? or let it sit in the dark overnight and turn the light on in the morning?
update--------------------------------------------------------------------
upon further inspection, i think i see my first pin. the myc is slightly glistening so i need an opinion if i should mist tonight? and snap a pic of the possible pin. or maybe i should leave it closed and let it do its thing?

well, here it is, the largest pin spotted, the first and largest of many in the tub. i really overestimated the size of knots. i see little tiny pearls all over the sub now, along with countless tiny pins and pin clusters. Light really was what this needed. i spotted these on day 7 of being in fruiting conditions. this is the best picture i can get through the double saran wrap lid. Also, should i mist?

some more shots on the growing pins

but also there is this bluing on some of the puffy myc balls, atleast i think its myc puff ball wisps, but they are turning blue, is it just bluing from stress or drying? or is this a contam?

Then give it a light misting, you need more humidity over the sub, that's why you're getting side pins.

here they are today, the myc balls are begining to look weirder. some have yellow spots now along with the blue tint, its bruising because of a dry sub right? should i heavily mist? my cat pulled out one of my top poly holes last night while i was asleep

It looks green from the pics. Wait till it clarifies what it is. If it's a mold it'll spread. If it's just myc bruising it'll remain or get better. It does look weird but I can't pinpoint what it is.

I mist if I see no beads of moisture on the sub. I think someone told you to mist already. You should dial in your monotub until you see bother condensation and beads of moisture without having to mist.
A goal of monotubs is set-and-forget (Disregarding adjusting polyfill). So you want to have to mist as little as possible. Don't mist for a pooling, just for small microbeads of water.
Don't fan either, the FAE will take care of this.

Harvest as the cap starts to open one at a time. Grab the base and twist. If it comes out easy without a chunk of substrate you can keep doing that. If not get the scissors and cut them as close to the sub as possible. The stumps fuzz up and revert back to myc.

I noticed a spot of trich yesterday so i put salt paste over it all around ht small trick ares about the size of a nickle. a day later it had spread out of the salt, so i cut my losses

here are my largest fruits

the tub is out side dunked awaiting to be buried in a hole i just dug outside under some oak trees, i have access to hpoo and hay/straw im not sure which, also dried grass clippings if need be. does the hpoo or grass/straw/hay need pasteurizing?

Hpoo does and is finicky but if you can get it to work it will produce great mushrooms
