Beautiful storm rolled in yesterday dumped cats and dogs on us all day, all I could think about was yummy chants popping up all night.
After bout 20 mins in my local forest finally spotted the first buttons!

Not much else so i gave up for today, but give it a day or two we'll be munchin down on some!
Season is on!

Kinda hard to explain, it's like if you've never had an Apple someone can't describe the flavor in detail enough to understand. But in a way I guess it's kinda like chicken dark meat flavor with white meat consistency and an eggy over tone and a nutty under tone. If that makes any sense.
They're basically delicious!

I knew this storm would bring gifts! I checked near the coast and not much action there at all. I might go up towards the mountains tomorrow.
Good finds!

Been raining for a while now, checked up on my local chants. They look like they've resumed growth after this last dry spell.

Hope the rest come up soon!

Splitting wood in the rain break made me hangry. No lunch and wet wood make for a bad winter start in the pnw. So went hunting for lunch! It eluded me well today, But got in the end I got some old enough not to feel bad eating them. The Puget sound is starting to pop!

So I figure while I waited for them to cook I could show y'all how I enjoy fresh picked chants

Stupid pictures organized backwards but whatever.
basic instructions, 1 mushrooms, 2 pan butter garlic pepper, 3 heat, 4 add mushrooms, 5 stir, 6 simmer, 7 sizzle, 8 paper towel, 9 eat with crackers.

So we went out again Yesterday, and the Chants are definitely up we also found a few good lobsters, some coral, and our first cauliflower. This was the first time we took our youngest kid along. She had a blast!

Well poop, I didn't take pictures before we ate them but I got A few pounds of gold chants off of larch mountain in the gorge. I like to hit my special spot, then drive to the top and work my way down.

were going out again this Sunday. As for lobsters I find a ton of them, come October. We already found two really nice ones but seriously we find so many we start passing them up. Personally I love the coral, chants, chicken, and cauliflower. Oh and especially lions mane those are fantastic. Its to bad we don't find more. I am getting so excited. We are taking my brother out he has never gone shroom hunting before so this should be fun.

When spotting these Chants ,I'm assuming they are covered with debris from the forest, Looks like symbiosis with Doug Fir, I've heard they grow under ferns, and near huckleberry bushes, did you just notice some debris misplaced

Yah next time I go out I'll take some before and after pics of the find, often you'll just see some orange or white ripples in the dirt or in the dank rotten fern fronds on the ground. Later in the season you just look for patches of pumpkin color in the green.
In my last photos you can see the two out in the open, those are semi common but not in early season, that's just the best though nothing to inhibit them or make em funny shaped.
The next pic shows how they can get stuck in the ground and just push some gills out.
And the white ones are generally covered in dirt but get much larger so they're easy to find.
