while on my way to pick some p.semilanceata i spied this under a huge pine tree on the road up the hill, really my question is whether anyone can confirm it for me and i was wondering if anyone had any tips on preserving/drying these mushrooms. i had attempted to air dry one last year but was unsuccessful at getting the moisture out it. thanks all!

Dry out like normal in a dehydrator or under a heat lamp and fan, if you wanna eat the whole thing for flavor, cook high heat though.
Peel the skin of the top like an orange toss out the white part. dry the skin with the dots on it under high heat to convert the chemicals, causes less nausea and you need less material to experience same drug like effects.
Once dry store in freezer for up to a year.
Eat for mild longer effect, smoke in a joint or bowl for quick decent high.
Hope that helps

Just on personal opinion, the muscaria buzz is hyped far more than it's ever lived up to be. As long as you try a lil piece to make sure your not allergic, I would respect them but don't be scared.
After ingesting 15+ g skins only, prolly 25+ mushrooms worth, I got sleepy had amazing dreams during a nap like vivid as Hell dreams. Then woke up felt kinda drunk but good for lil while. that's as good as it gets for me, tried less and more. Fun in a way but not desirable. Do not even try and compare them with psilocybes.
Smoking the dry skins mixed with a lil weed produces a very unique yet short lived pleasurable high, much more than the weed alone would induce. Yet still it's not pleasurable enough to prefer over just a plain phatty.
Over all they're a nice treat to find cause they're beautiful to look at...

Thanks for all the info! maybe one day my curiosity will get the better of me haha! how does one get just the skins? do you need to peel it before you dry them? cos i dried it without doing anything to it, i suppose tho i had the intention of preserving it just as a specimin to look at. although now i have looked more into it it seems an interesting thing to have experienced just for yanno, experience lol

Yah that's exactly why I tried it, got into mushrooms had to try em all. Felt like a pokemon trainer!
But yah if you want the skins, when they are fresh they peel like an orange, just start at the edge work your way in. Once dry you can still separate them but it's much harder.
Pretty much all the good stuff is in the color. The yellower ones are weaker, the dark red ones are better, the brown ones though if you're lucky enough to find a panther cap are the best.

Sweet nice find!
Looks like an Aminita Pantherina to me. The top being eaten and so wet without much dots but big white holes looks kinda like a russula but that's just at first glance. But the brownish stipe with bulbous vulva base and the anulus skirt and few lil veil remnants on the cap with bright white gills, say panther cap to me.
I'd wait for a TI before I'd be 100% conclusive. But keep an eye out for more!
Often I find more brown ones in same spot in the spring.

I would take any erowid experience report with a grain of salt. Articles on catnip and valerian root are titled: "A rollercoaster ride to the peaks of god's visionscape and free-falling into the oblivion of the human subconciousness".

I've still yet to try this for it's culinary value (after boiling off the toxins). It is very widely available around where i live. It's one of the mushrooms that i see most frequently and can be sure to find even if i don't know a specific place where it's growing yet, once it's properly in season that is.

Clear pictures of the intact base of the stem need to be taken for an accurate ID.

All Amanita rubescens, imo.
