Gas (re)-sterilizing a plastic petri dish

So...I have a solitary (plastic) petri dish that developed a contamination out of 20 plates. I also have a pool, and that means a large plastic tub filled with 4" chlorine tabs that chokes me with vapor every time I open it. I cleaned the petri with full-strength chlorox, rinsed and dried it (all outside). I was wondering...what might happen if I put it on a paper towel inside the chlorine tab tub and left it there for 48 - 72 hours, then closed it up. Would it be sterile?
For shits and giggles I think I'm going to try this and pour some agar into it in front of my flow hood just to see if anything grows out. Anyone ever try something like this? The vapor inside the tub is EXTREMELY noxious and I'm thinking it might just work. If it does, that would bode well if you pour 20 plates out of a pack of 25. You could avoid wasting those other 5 dishes! My one concern is that the plastic would get brittle from the exposure to the CL- gas.

chlorine will only sanitize things, not sterilize them.

Perhaps. Still going to try it, though. As noxious as that gas is, I can't imagine anything standing up to it. It's gotta be 1000ppm in that tub.
Edit: Found an academic article which sums it up pretty well in this line: "Chlorine dioxide gas is approved for use as a sterilant by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA). Its sporicidal effects are well documented and can be compared with those of vaporized hydrogen peroxide and formaldehyde, agents commonly used for surface disinfection in the pharmaceutical industry."
