Monkey: Journey to the West is such a great epic! Which translation are you reading? I'm pretty sure its an epic story in Eastern cultures that used to be an oral tradition.

I had been introduced to it but, I finally read it since I'm born in the Chinese zodiac year of the monkey (1992).  You know when your brain is going faster than any of your actions and thinking of all kinds of weird stuff from anxieties to fantasies? That's called Monkey-mind, and Journey to the West is a sort of allegory for taming that Monkey-mind.  See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mind_monkey

Monkey is such a ridiculous, loveable character.  I love the global imagery.
When you finish reading, check out the movie "Journey to the West." It's on Netflix, and although its not completely accurate (it's a movie adaptation) it does well to match the awesome imagery from the book.
Enjoy your adventure!! xo

I watched the movie on Netflix called journey to the west; it was pretty good.  This is Hermann Hesse right?

Hesse's book is Journey to the East. I was unfamiliar with this  multi-volume set myself so I looked it up on Amazon.
