First time doing Heroin 1

From the documentary 'Streets of Plenty', a man spends 30 days being homeless on the streets of Vancouver.
With five days left of this project he decides to use heroin for the first time.
Synopsis: Vancouver has been voted the best city in the world to live in but it has a dark secret -- the downtown east side ghetto. With the roughest neighbourhood and the highest crime rate in North America living conditions here are on a par with third world countries, and homelessness and drug-addiction are rife. And yet provisions for those in need couldn't be better.
Misha Kleider, in an effort to find out what is going wrong, goes under cover for a month in December leaving behind his apartment, his friends and his wallet to see first-hand what life on the streets is really like. Starting with nothing but his underwear he journeys through the institutions and services available to the homeless and makes some startling revelations along the way. The experience upsets any pre-conceived notions about how to "fix" the problem and what begins as a social experiment in the vein of Orwell's' Down and Out in Paris and London takes a darker turn as Misha connects with the real residents of the downtown east side ghetto; the crack addicts, the junkies, the dealers and the diseased. As Misha becomes more involved in this world, the film speeds towards a shocking finale that will leave you breathless and in awe.
Streets of Plenty is a fearless, fast paced and entertaining exploration of what it means to live on the streets of North America's worst ghetto.

I use to think heroin would be just so blissful and the best given its reputation. Though I hear you don't start to really enjoy it until you've already become addicted. I am watching the documentary right now and it's pretty interesting.
I have a new appreciation for Canada, it seems like a really nice place.

I wonder what they spend on the working poor, the guy working at a fast food place to feed his family? Why do piece of shit junkies get tax dollars when honest hard working Canadians get nothing?
"North America's worst ghetto"
That's is the stupidest thing I ever heard invented by the pro hand wringers of the DTES. It is perfectly fucking safe there at any hour of the day or night. You go to a bad area in Baltimore or Detroit and tell me Vancouver is worse.

That is mentioned in the video as well, people say it's too tempting for more and more people to live that live style.
I agree on Vancouver being safer, even the criminals in Vancouver seem nice.
I think the documentary puts VN in a very positive light.

What are they basing this on?
I find this guy obnoxious and this video strikes me as exploitative.

Yeah, I have a tough time believing that North America's roughest hood is in Canada.
Probably somewhere in Mexico, if not in Detroit, NOLA, St. Louis, Philly, etc.

I thought that documentary was pretty good when i watched it a few years back.
I don't remember him ever referring to it as a ghetto though.
I thought it was obvious that he was just in the scummy part of town where all the homeless addicts congregate.
pretty much every big city has areas like that

Well technically I think Mexico is considered Central America, but I have the feeling like that stat is manipulated here. I would like to see whatever facts they are basing the comparison to Botswana to. My guess is that they study and promote harm reduction measures that make the stats seem inflated compared to places that ignore the problem.
I'm sure there are areas of 2nd rate cities in the US that are much worse, but they don't receive the same attention. There are places in the US that are more or less off limits to police, neighborhoods full of trap houses that would make their legal shooting galleries look like five star restaurants.
Any ghetto is dangerous to some college dbag who goes down to film a documentary like his experience is genuine and he understands what it is to be homeless now. It's all kinda tongue-in-cheek and MTVish, just comes off as tasteless to me.

Is the full documentary up on a torrent site or free to watch on netflix or anything? I'm at work so I can't really check. Was hoping the youtube video was the entire thing and not just a clip.
Also, LOL@pukey mc'pukerton with hatching ant eggs in his beard. hahaah
Probably should have taken like 1/4 the shot he did.

The drug use is a pretty small part of the documentary, but he does also smokes crack.
It's not something I would watch again-
Moonrockmushy, I am sorry this documentary made you angry.

Not angry, just find it tasteless. The dude seems obsessed with himself and not that concerned with any social issues. Just my perspective.

Yeah I don't blame anyone for watching it. Normally I eat this shit up, but it's early so I'm extra pissy.
There are some good docs on homelessness out there, and there's a movie from the 80s I think telling the story of a guy who was a real homeless advocate who did this a while ago in a way that I thought was more touching and genuine considering he actually spent his life improving shelters and helping people. I'll see if I can find some of that on youtube and report back.
I'm not saying I've done anything great for the homeless myself, but I would feel bad trying to get 15 minutes of fame off these issues without some real substance behind what I was doing.
I hate to say it, but I did find him getting smashed by the bottle lolsy
