Can oyster and shitake mushrooms be grown using the same methods as cubes?

Can I grow king oysters and shitake mushrooms just like I grow cubes? Could I do a mono tub of oysters? For some reason, I was told that shitake needed sawdust instead of grain, but I'm not entirely sure.

Nah man, you need some wood and straw for that stuff.

same mediums can be used however too much surface area exposed in a mono setting for oyster mushrooms, you will get a lot of aborts but shitake and oysters can be done like cubes just like in rr's videos as in cakes but do yourself a favor and watch them

They can be grown the same way up until the spawning stage. Oyster and shitake mushrooms need different substrates than cubensis. Using straw as a substrate for cubensis and oysters works, but the shitake do need saw dust/wood. Oysters and shitake MIGHT fruit in a monotub, but it would be pathetic. Do yourself a favor and buy RogerRabbits "let's grow mushrooms" series. It will teach you so much

I've seen shitake and oysters grown in spawn bags that were opened and placed in a greenhouse. Would I inoculate a spawn bag of straw and coir substrate instead of just grains? http://www.vermontmushrooms.com/indoorcultivationmethods.html

coir is expensive for edibles and hard on the money, you would spawn just like cubes though starting with grains

I've had my best luck with oysters using the "oyster laundry basket" TEK in RR's videos. I inoculated with Live Culture (wedge sent to me) > Agar > Whole Oat grain spawn > straw. I did a few agar transfers to be sure to have fairly clean plates to wedge for inoculations.
I'll tell you.... that oyster mycelium will colonize a whole oat grain jar in a few days to a week if you have a fast colonizing culture.
I was doing Pearl Oysters in laundry baskets and the whole grow start to finish was smoking fast.... like 3 weeks agar>grains>straw?harvest....
The pink oyster mycelium seemed to colonize quite a bit slower. Both on the plates, and after I spawn to straw.
After spawning I just put my straw laundry baskets (with a plate and weight on top to help compress) into large black trash bags with the top twisted a little and laid on top. And damn! in like 4-5 days I had mycelium growing on the plastic of the basket and everywhere. Looked like whipped cream....lol.
