You must've missed the part where I said, that since dude 2 is making the deal, it's up to dude 2 to make sure they're not getting ripped off, and ANY rip off should fall solely on him.
Getting ripped off happens on occasion, it's not always convenient to just weight it out, sometimes it's sketchy and you grab and go. But the one time I got burned while buying for me and someone else, I gave them their fair share (and not just half of what we both paid equally for) and took the loss myself. It was MY responsibility to make sure I wasn't getting burned and I didn't do so (although in my defense, I had been buying from the guy for quite awhile and it had always been straight before). I dunno if it was intentional or not, but I gave the dude the chance to make things right and he refused, so fuck him. He never saw another dime of my money.
I may not walk up in there all vigilante style and beat the shit out of him, but I'm certainly not going to perpetuate a situation in which I'm getting ripped off. Dealers are everywhere, there is no excuse to do such a thing unless you literally need the weed/drug to save your life. If that ever IS the case, you best damn well be scouring for a new dealer like you had none in the mean time.
Shady people and shady dealers get away with this shit because people keep letting them and it's fucked up. Stop being a part of the problem.

OP listen to whatever advice you want, and I know you're probably going to puss out (no offense meant) and just take the easy road, but at least do so with the understanding you're going to keep getting ripped off, constantly, until you change your attitude towards it. I am far from the type of person to go causing drama, but there are some things I simply won't stand for and stealing is one. I have vast experience in dealing with dealers (none of mine seem to last long) and middlemen. I know the game well. I can almost guarantee dude 2 is the one doing the ripping off. The dealer might be aware of it, but as far his end is concerned, it's irrelevant. Whether you throw down 60 on your own and get your 60 worth and the other dude comes by later and throws down 20 for his, it's all the same to the dealer. Same sold, same price. It actually works a little more to his benefit to split the sales (but very minimally).
Dealers work on referrals, period. Those referrals are often NOT a meet and greet. Some paranoid dealers require it, but a lot don't. I have only ever came across ONE who was sketched out by someone new, and I ended up buying from him anyways. All it took was being cool and not acting sketchy. Flat out told him the circumstances, gave a good reason why I'd have his number, and the first buy was a little sketchy because of his paranoia. After that it was fine.
Dude 2 is never going to give up the contact, as soon as he does, he's no longer getting free weed. You talk to him and he's going to know why regardless of the reason you give. He's going to shut it down. He'll give you some excuse why not. Try it if you don't believe me. Ask to meet the dealer himself and watch the excuses he throws out.
Fuck all this nonsense about being "honorable" dishonorable people deserve no honor.
You want a good reason to not go to the friend first and just talk to the dealer straight up? You contact the dealer yourself and NOT mention anything about being ripped off, the worst case scenario is he gets sketchy and won't do it. then he MAY say something to dude 2, at which point you can just claim ignorance and make up some bullshit why you just decided to go directly to the source. You can puss out (again, no offense meant) and weasel your way back into the arrangement you had. Dealer already knows and obviously trust dude 2. Do it my way, you have that to fall back on. Confront the friend, and you don't have that, and if the dealer wants to get sketchy, then you have nothing.
Talk to the dealer yourself.
