Kizatz's Greenhouse. 2

Hello everyone.
I thought I would create a thread here for people to discuss greenhouses and display greenhouse plants. My summer project this year, was building the new greenhouse in my yard. I am happy to say that is is now complete, and I have a new home for my plants.
I am going to update images from my greenhouse to this thread, so as not to bog the forum with other threads.
I welcome other people to discuss greenhouse kits, or greenhouse issues, in this thread as well as other related topics like: domes, bells, cold frames, and the like.
Enjoy.. Kizatz.

Its not insulated at all.. the plan is to set up lights in the garage. I could run a 220 in the garage if I had to.. lol but dont plan on eating up that kind of electricity for lights. and heat. with the furnace adjacent to the garage it stays about 60 there year round., so will be ok. some of the hardier plants will be able to just overwinter in the greenhouse.. and the large tricho-tubs will sit in front of the livingroom window, along with the Hoya.. they will come back inside.

Ah I see. I don't heat either, I mostly grow cacti and they are all happy to go dormant. Trichs and other cold hardy cacti stay in the greenhouse for winter, the rest get packed up into boxes and moved to the garage.
That is a good height on your greenhouse, 8 feet to the ridge? (2.4m )

Time for a greenhouse update.
I thought I would Post some update photos of my greenhouse. They have really been enjoying the new environment. The acacia trees have put out a lot of new growth. Pretty soon, I am going to have to repot the eucalyptus trees.
I hope you all enjoy the photos. I will keep posting more and the greenhouse updates.
Acacia salicina

Eucalyptus citriodora

New growth and new pup photo on my largest pachanoi.

Crazy Growth on a Tricho-Pach. I started this plant from seed, THIS YEAR. LOL Back in January. I am amazed at just how fast TP, can grow.
http://
This photo, is Of the New Pup, on My TP. It emerged in May of this year, and it is already larger than a Bic Lighter.

This photo, is of A Trichocereus species mix, (peruvianus and bridgesii), and an Akersia roseiflora seedling. a little over a year old.

The last photo here is an update of my first Trichocereus seedlings. I started these a little over a year ago, in May. They have really taken off this summer and went from being about the size of my pinkey nail, to where they are now. They are also starting to put out some nice spines.

I built some furniture for the greenhouse. I do Need to finish painting it, but.. the racks will provide some shade for some of my cactys cups, and small pots.
Its amazing what you can do with some scrap wood. . some nails and some white enamel paint. LOL

Looks great! I have the same greenhouse, and have had it up for about 2 years now. I ended up with some relatively extensive mods after reading reviews and what other folks had done with theirs. How did you go about securing yours? I see that you didn't bury the "foundation" that the kit comes with.

Kykeion,
I ended up making a foundation. I got some pressure treated wood. Dug a trench, and put a wooden foundation down first.. and secured the metal base to it. Then I laid some cement paver-stones down as a floor. at the 4 corners there are a small pile of pavers for weight.
So I guess you could say.. I secured the foundation to heavier foundation.. lol
I am not sure if it shows up in photos. . but I modified the interior.. I got some 1/2" metal conduit pipe. I bent the edges of it and flattened them to make a couple metal rafter poles to stableize the interior. The greenhouse has withstood one heavy storm since I put it up.. with winds in excess of 50-MPH.
The one thing I can say about this kind of greenhouse is. (BUY extra clips), they are your friend. LOL. You can never put too many on and around a panel.. lol

Nice, yeah I made a similar foundation out of pressure treated 4x6's. The biggest benefit of this was that I was able to have my GH moved when we bought a house four months ago. ATM it is just sitting on the surface, but hopefully in the next week or so I will be able to get a pit excavated so I can sink everything in the ground about 8 inches.
I also added interior stabilization. I was lucky enough to have access to free steel struts that we built and interior frame out of and constructed work benches with. I don't know what that stuff actually costs, but was told that if I had to buy it all it probably would have cost at least what I paid for the green house.

And yeah extra clips for sure! Even with extras I lost panels occasionally. At the old house i had lined the panels with a foam tape (between the panel and the frame) which helped hold them in tighter and seal the green house a little better. This time around I used silicone caulk in addition to the clips since I don't plan on moving the green house again.
