It's not enough

It's not enough that I see the truth...
Everyone Must See The TRUTH
that is the point of all of this arguing.

What if the "truth" of a specific argument is relative?
Are you moving, or am I?

this thread wasn't meant to say that I have the truth.
it was a characterazation of the motive for arguement. see trueblonde's post.

I see. You're being facetious. Okay. As I see it though, for the most part, the people who believe in 2012, or God, or signs, or whatever, don't slam those who don't believe. But the converse appears to be true. Fear?

I've been slammed plenty of times by Believers. My grandmother told me I was going to Hell because I was not baptized.
It isn't my intent to slam anyone, but I will place one's ideas under close scrutinty, as I expect other's to do to my ideas.
I do not believe that fear is a motive in skeptics and debunkers. In fact, I believe the converse to be true. Soap boxers are usually insecure about their own beliefs and these insecurities manifest themselves into fanaticism. I see people projecting their own fear; when I hear someone preach I think "who are you trying to convince, me or yourself?"

Good point. I forgot about the bible-thumpers. I have some of those in my own family. Caused me to turn away from God for a number of years because, well, hehe, I was such a sinner!!! No way was I going to heaven, according to them!
Then I started learning the bible on my own, and I realized that they didn't really know fully about that which they were speaking, i.e., they didn't know their schitt.
I think you are right. Soap boxers, whether believers or non-believers, are probably insecure.

Every one should be insecure about their beliefs. No belief can be trusted.

-------------------- Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.

Well, maybe just not hold onto them so tightly. Allow them growing space and breathing room.

I like to think that the point of this arguing has more to do with an exchange of ideas. One person's thesis + another's antithesis = the synthesis I get from viewing various debates that take place in this lovely forum. Maybe I'm just naive.
Even Soapbox Preachers have something to teach. I mean, sure, they're wrong and all but so am I. Given the dynamic and dialectic nature of existance, we're all at least a little bit wrong. So why not mix it all together and get tasty wrong-stew? But then I'm not the sort of guy who takes beliefs too seriously.
-------------------- Don't worry, I'm wrong.
