I got into it about a month ago. Cant touch it anymore. Meh. Still freemium. Even if its fallout. The fun wears thin as your dwellers get to like Lvl 12. But it still gives you plenty of good stuff and you can totally survive for free for a while, it just gets repetitive. The "Breeding" aspect is super cool though, and its better than all those other resource management freemium games

I don't see how it qualifies as a true freemium game.. it's not like it's behind a paywall where you can't advance without paying money. I mean.. my highest dwellers right now are level 12 and I have a bunch of armor and weapons already and haven't spent a cent. The only things you can buy with money are the lunchboxes and Mr. Handy box which just give you resources/items/dwellers which you get from playing anyway. You just get them faster.
It's not like you get items which you can ONLY get by paying money.. and it's not like you CAN'T progress past a certain point without spending money... that's what qualifies a true freemium game in my eyes.. something where "Premium" content or items are behind a paywall.
I mean I'm not in the end-game yet.. but from what I've seen so far.. and reading the contents of the shop... you just unlock random loot faster by paying money, but it's not at all necessary. So I wouldn't call it a freemium game at all really.
You want to see a real Freemium game.. look at Tapped out.. or Plants Vs Zombies 2

I just grabbed this earlier today even though a ton of gaming sites/writers all said not to bother because of exactly what was stated in this thread, that it basically turns ultra repetitive and pointless since there is no sort of end game or anything.
Still seems like a fun little time waster though. I'm almost happier that there isn't some sort of end game multiplayer whatever that might drive me to want to pay for something. If Clash of Clans wasn't a competitive style game I would have never spent anything on it but THEE NEED TO DEEFEAATS IS STRONG IN THIS ONE.

I love games like these. Repetition and light strategy. I also like picking grass and putting it in a nice pile.

Never played simtower.. but the developers described it as inspired by games like Xcom..Sim City..FTL.. Progress Quest..so you probably aren't far off.

Its better than alot of other crap and i like the model way better than, say, mobile simcity or whatever. And it def is something you *can* play for free for a while if you want to. Just for me after a week or less it got boring, but i had some fun times with that too. Def a great time killer and its pretty addictive. I like the wasteland roaming text adventure type stuff. Eventually though you do run out of space and resources become more scarce. I will say i really** like the visual design of that game. Especially if youre on an ipad, its beautiful, and i love how the rooms are laid out in 2d, ive always thought that was super cool. And i like the Fallout character cameos. Its a bit of a teaser before Fallout 4

Meh. Fallout Shelter had me excited the first half hour. At its core it's just another freemium time sink that feeds you tons of bonus stuff in the beginning, but once that wears off you basically play the waiting game because everything runs on countdown intervals.
I just picked up Underrail on Steam. Wiser choice to satisfy a Fallout itch.

What countdown intervals? Everything builds instantly once you have the resources for it.
And how does it qualify as freemium when there's zero paywall to reach end game? Paying money doesn't get you access to exclusive stuff that you can ONLY get by paying.
I really don't understand how people call this a freemium game. It's completely free to play with some bonus lunchboxes to buy if you want more random loot.. that's it.
Quote:
Freemium is a pricing strategy by which a product or service (typically a digital offering or application such as software, media, games or web services) is provided free of charge, but money (premium) is charged for proprietary features, functionality, or virtual goods.
Those two bolded for emphasis. I wouldn't call it a freemium game simply because you CAN buy random loot. How else would they make any money at all from it if there was zero option? Freemium games at their core.. milk advanced features or functionality that you CANNOT get without paying money for. See Plants Vs. Zombies 2, Candy Crush, Dungeon Keeper, Zombie Vs Ninja.. and shit.. Clash of Clans for a REAL example on a true freemium game with real countdown intervals that you can bypass completely by paying money. Or advanced features or necessary functions you NEED to get to end game that cannot be accessed at all without paying money. That's what defines a real freemium game IMO.
The random loot and resources and shit you get from lunchboxes you can get just from sending your dudes out into the wasteland.

No, what does Mr. Handy's do? Collect loot for you... ooh boy. unobtainable feature! Saves you from having to touch the screen an extra three times! Wow! Much freemium. Impossible to progress without. Oh wait it's just a stupid worthless gimmick

I get this way with most games. When that virus game came out I made a virus that went incredibly slow. And I had another game where you make a community and everyone was super happy. And when I played pikmin I would sob if one of them died. Haha
I'm not cut out for this!
But realistically I'll probably stop playing next week when school starts again. Haha I just won't look at the disaster my neglect had caused.
