You can let silica gel packets touch the mushrooms? I bought the ones that are food safety approved or whatever... (supposedly IDK) but I still make a little screen between them in the desiccant chamber so they aren't touching.

If the mushrooms are already dry the packet can touch them yeah... Should still use a food-safe option. I mean, you ever bought a bag of jerky?

Weighted the mushrooms earlier today & they have dropped 3 grams so they definitely had some water weight to them. They are now nice & crispy & I can snap them in half. I'm thinking about just leaving them in the desiccant chambers so they stay that way.

That is literally the point of desiccant.

yea i was going to mention to you OP that once they are cracker dry you want to store them with a desiccant up until the time you eat them. you cannot over dry them in anyway so always keep a packet in your storage jar or whatever you use

No need for that OP. Once your mushrooms are cracker dry then put them in a clean dry mason jar, add a desiccant pack or two and close the lid well. Store the jar in a cool, dark and dry place. They will last for quite some time.

Just get a food dehydrator and dry them till CRACKER DRY (use the highest temp setting on the unit if it has one. Mine goes up to 160F)
Dehydrate until they are cracker dry. (squeezing and rubbibg the caps, they will turn to dust)
Once cracker dry just store them in a ziplock (try getting mnost of the air out. And put your bags in another airtight container like a Gladware or Tupperware container....
A vacuum machine for storing food in bags would be the cat's ass as well.
It is oxidation from exposing the fruits to open air for extended periods of time that degrades the actives.
The quicker you dry them (cracker dry) and store in an airtight container the better. Just my 2 cents....
