My cactus fell over. would like some input

Hi everyone, so I got this cactus and it's been in the ground since march 2014. The cactus is pachanoi or macrogonus, depending on who you ask and was sold to me as a peruvianus. I know some cactus go prostrate so I'm curious if any of you knowledgeable folks agree this looks normal.
The cactus developed a lean to it and was at a 45 degree angle for few days, then this morning it was on the ground. Looking back it seems very controlled and deliberate. There's no rot and no soft spots.
Should I cut and root or let it play out? BEFORE

AFTER

Awwh poor, cacti..
I'd cut it, let callous, then re-plant/pot w/stakes to keep it stable.

got top heavy, developed the lean and broke. Trichocereus camarguensis is a cactus that throws itself over to grow. It doesn't break itself though,

Valid. I like your style and agree with you. I cut the cactus and will let it callous then reroot. It's 42 inches in length and very heavy. I'm guessing here but I place it at over 40 pounds.
THanks for putting it in perspective.

I would cut the bottom flat and the stump at an angle. Then I would cut two 10" middle sections from the 42" tip leaving 22". I would root the two middles as logs, and reroot the tip upright. Then you have four cacti.

If you just leave it be it will become a log and grow many new pups along said log. This is how patches are created in nature.

True, but I wouldn't let any of mine do that if they were to fall. Just my preference though.
I would cut it into probably 3 pieces myself and reroot....

 40 pounds?!?!
