SSD > HDD 2

In the race for power, solid state drives have taken the lead with a Samsung 2.5 inch 16TB SSD.
The biggest commercial drive now is a solid state drive.
SSD's are the future, I got two 500GB ones and its just too dreamy. I can't wait until the industry commits to SSD's, storage media with moving parts are soooo last decade.
Any high tech developments that have caught your eye?

I'm looking forward to the day that they will be affordable for bulk storage and finally kill the conventional HDD. Not looking too far off at all.

I've had a SSD for over 4 years now. I literally can't even stand to use a computer with a HDD for my needs. It's just way too slow. I'll sacrifice storing everything on my boot machine for speed any day.

Its not just slow, the noises of a revving HDD are stressy.

I have a 250 GB Samsung SSD as the boot drive in my laptop and a tray adapter to put another 2.5" drive where the optical drive goes. Haven't got around to getting a big HDD for it though, for now it's the 320 GB HDD that came stock with the computer.

HDD's are a little more reliable in terms of long term storage and the way they read/write data. SSD's are still WAY too expensive. Right now I'm using a SSHD. It's a nice upgrade from a HDD.

IMO they haven't been outrageously expensive for quite some time, I guess it's all relative though. I paid about $150 for a 250 GB drive last summer, not sure what the same one would go for now.

That seems pretty decent. Mine is an 840 I think, not sure how they differ exactly but I think even that more or less saturates the SATA 3 bus. Haven't looked into this much lately but I was reading at some point that SATA is probably on the way out. Macs with SSDs just use PCI-e to avoid that bottleneck I think.

Waiting on the 2016 launch of Oculus to upgrade from my DK2.
Also waiting on an RMA to complete for a GTX 980 ti in order to be able to play Fallout 4 in Virtual Reality when it is released; my original card came defective, and had to be shipped back. Dx
At least it came with a free copy of Metal Gear Solid that I can claim when it drops next month; that helps to alleviate some of my disappointment over waiting.

Considering I got my 1TB SSHD for only $85......um yah...a 1TB SSD would be godly expensive. I don't fuck with anything less than 500gb for internal and nothing less than 1tb for external unless it's just for music or something small.

Yeah I can see where those could be an attractive compromise if you only have one drive bay.
I like to have a lot of storage too, my desktop has 7 TB of storage. 250 GB is plenty for OS and programs for me for my laptop for the forseeable future. Eventually I'll get a 2.5" 2 TB drive for my laptop for bulk storage, I think they're in the ballpark of $100. The speed of SSD isn't necessary for movie files and so on (unless for example you're trading the files with friends over a local gigabit connection or something).

If you don't own a SSD get one a move your OS and programs you use most. There is a noticeable difference especially with memory heavy games. I love 'em.
