Are these pins too big to dunk?

This is my first grow. I read that pins could rot during the dunk, however some say otherwise. I've been meaning to dunk my cakes for the past couple of days, but I don't have a SGFC ready quite yet. I can't buy any perlite until I get paid tomorrow . Anyways, I plan on dunking in an hour and I am wondering if these pins will survive.

Are those mushrooms picked? They're still a part of the mycelial network. They won't "rot"(contaminate/decompose) without the rest of it contaminating. However it still takes a long time for a picked fruit to rot. It will turn mushy, and black, but that's not rotten(but it is technically decomposing, so it is in itself rot). It will eventually recover and turn back to white mycelium. If it can't find a source to feed off of and colonize, it will eventually contaminate and rot(this is IME weeks later, if it didn't already dry out by then). Until the entire network gives out, it won't contaminate.

I wasn't referring to the pins on my cakes, but thank you for explaining this.

I believe the mushrooms that develop in vitro are usually the better ones but that's a matter of opinion. However they definitely do get a jump from the water when you dunk with the pins still attached. I have found that the pins that you keep on during the dunking tend to be larger but slightly misshapen.
