Just curious about peoples opinions on this.

Huge turn on unless it's a really shitty tattoo. And I mean quality not design. If given the option, I'll take the tattooed girl over the non tattooed girl every time.

Depends, I've seen both. Usually I like something subtle, less is more. Like an accentuation type thing on a girl. It's real easy to over do it..
And then you have your scenarios like this one girl I knew that got a full back tat of a gargoyle and came running up to show me.. in my head I was like, damn, you just fucked yourself up for life..
Tattoos are a funny thing like that, it's almost like you're rolling the dice anytime you go for one.
That said I'm tattered up, and have two more designs I'd like to get if I ever had pissing away money handy..

Having been in and around tattoo shops since I was 15, I've met countless people who get a tattoo only because they want 'a tattoo' - not because they wish to use this medium to express/acknowledge/remind themselves of something significant about their lives/themselves.
So perhaps some of the 80% you mention, are the ones where, actually, there was little going through their mind when they got it.
Personally, I see them as a rite of passage, and all of mine are deeply meaningful to me and represent the most important lessons in my life (and have appeared at a time when the lesson has been learned and needed to be stamped upon my mind). They serve as a reminder to me, and as such only appear in places where I can see them easily (I had one started on my back, but as I can't see it without multiple mirrors, I left it unfinished).
I have to admit that I've come to very much love the experience of being tattooed also, so perhaps I have a little more than is needed, but none the less, this doesn't take anything away from how important they are in my life.

I can see maybe a little discrete memorial or "MOM" or something like that in a discrete place but these supposed works of art seem ridiculous to me and I suspect that they will seem ridiculous to a lot of the people who have them when they grow up. I'm not crazy about piercings either but at least you can just take them out when you get tired of them.

I suppose it depends on if you get them to be a 'work of art' or not. I've been to lots of tattoo conventions and have seen many that, IMO, are art, but once anyone with tattoos gets old, they're gonna look shit. We've probably all seen an old guy with tats; they look terrible as they bleed out with age.
Hence, IMO, if they're there for symbolism they represent character, and that, to me, is a massive turn on. Same goes for piercings.

Same thing I was thinking. I can dig it jo, when I look back it's always related to milestones in my life.. all unique shit and not flash tats..
It also helps the dude who's done all my tattoos is a deep thinker. We have some pretty wild back and forths there when it comes time to lay something down.. you either get it or you dont, you know..

Yeah, it is scarification. I got it not only for the relevance of the word in my life, but also as it's a bit tongue in cheek; tattoos these days are no longer permanent, but scarification is. I loved having it done too; along with the psychedelic artwork all over the shop, the banging psy-trance playing, the fact that everyone in the shop had facial tattoos, and talking to the wicked guy who did it about acid experiences for hours. It was like a trip in itself having it done.
I do think it's vitally important to find an artist you work well with. After having about 7 people tattoo me over the years, I've settled on this woman I found who's miles away from me, but such a cool person and a deep thinker too. I wish there were more heavily tattooed women out there.

I'm one of the funniest posters on the site. I also have a well earned reputation for calling out bullshit. What in this did you think was humorous, ""When the whole world is running towards a cliff, he who is running in the opposite direction appears to have lost his mind.""
It was more self aggrandizing bullshit I see from children who barely know how to clean their asses over and over again. I won't even that other thread of yours.

He didn't give me the choice, I didn't complain. The initial cuts for the outlines were made before the numbing agent was applied though, they were pretty tasty. Overall, it was about the same pain equivalent to a tattoo.
Now the aftercare, that's a different matter entirely. 2 weeks of changing the dressing (clingfilm) twice a day, blood and plasma leaking down your arm, followed by scrubbing the scab out with a sponge, sugar and peroxide each evening to encourage the scar to keloid. Makes me so much more appreciate the ease of getting a tattoo done, giving it a good clean after a few hours later, and then never thinking about caring for it again.

Bad tattoo is an instant turn off. Almost repulsive. Good tattoos are sexy.
I dated a chick who was covered neck to ankles except her breasts and ass cheeks and bikini line. She had good ones, bad ones, funny ones. It wasn't about the tattoos though, it was the way she carried herself. One sexy walking piece of art.

Eye dig 'em. Seems like something interesting to look at on most people that lack the spontaneous us of verbal echange to express the moment of now. I like to ask questions of the tattoo art one have. Some have more detailed stories than others. See as an easy topic to start conversation with. All tattooed folk like the attention of such "hey, look at that..."

I'm really into tattoos, my last gf had a giant one covering her entire side and when I was kissing her face sometimes I was thinking about kissing her tattoo. I wanted to just rub my face all over it and make animal noises.
Ok, that was kind of graphic, but true

Seems like there's an overwhelming opinion on the 'turn on' side, from both sexes. I wonder if that is why they have risen in popularity over the last decade or so?
And why more women don't have them, given how many men in this sample seem to find them a turn on?

I ain't got that type of money!!

Plus after my first disaster of a tattoo I want to get a cover up and I'm just really picky and haven't scoped enough artists out there. Alot of my friends who are girls have them tho. Good stuff.

Haha but I think it is due to the sexual arousing that more people have them. And perhaps society feel obligated to tell their stories thru art. And also for lame reasons. Haha

Uhhh you know getting tattoos bc they think they'll make ya cool and stuff. Tramp stamps.. blah blah.
I honestly don't consider getting tattoos while you're drunk lame tho. Bc that's a story to me.

Interesting. I would very much consider getting one whilst your judgement is impaired to be 'lame'. With something so important, one should be sharp and clear in their definition of purpose IMO.
However I do agree on the 'cool' side - I hate to see them used as a 'fashion' accessory.

Oh yes a more perfect word(s)... fashion accessory.
Nah I wouldn't think it would be lame if they were drunk. Stupid. But not lame. I would probably laugh so hard at them if they got a crappy one too. "Oh my goodness you didn't even pick a good one!!" But all in good fun. I wouldn't want to embarrass them if they already were.

Some art is shit and when you grow up you can always take a painting off the wall. I've heard it isn't fun getting a tat removed

Come on you stereotypical "oldman"... you think at your age a blobbed out tat you got when you were younger, that verified a signifigant aspect of your life at the time is going to fuck up your day at the community pool that much? Come on man..
At your age you should be well trained at getting past appearences, period, much less let some random tat get in your way..

Ask Johnny Depp about tattoo regret and I don't run around shirtless and in shorts anymore after the melanoma.

Oh no when ppl just get one to look cool and stuff and wear it as some kind of fashion accessory then regret it later.
But I do consider it art for most times.

Yeah, tattoos are such a turnoff. I can't stand looking at images like this because of the tattoos.

Not a big deal. Colonoscopies require sedation and they won't let go on your own.

I don't like tattoos on partners but j have 4 and plan on more, and love mine. I just usually go after the clean cut look. Nothing hotter then a conservative man that gets down in private
