Miles is my musical christ. Bitches Brew is the center piece of my music collection. Many of the best music I have is somehow related to Bitches Brew, either because the musicians played on it, or play with musicians that played on it, etc. Or because modern musicians are still playing and composing in that particular musical style and culture.
Another Miles album that I really like to go deep on is We Want Miles (1980?), with Mike Stern, Marcus Miller, Bill Evans, etc. The solos by Miles and Mike are so goddamn deep, they give me chills. Listen to it if you haven't already. Track 1, Jean-Pierre, is a great teaser, but the deep stuff starts quickly after that.
Modern stuff that honors this old style can be great too. For instance, when I listen to Nils Petr Molvaer I can clearly hear him talking about Bitches Brew (but his is in the more digital Norwegian-electro jazz style). Same with other modern trumpet players, like Cuong Vu. Check them out if you dont know them already. This is true trip jazz to me. And very hard to handle... I love that.
Finally, the gem of my music collection. Not Miles, but closely related. Did you know that for some reason Herbie Hancock missed out playing on Bitches Brew. He then started his own band in that style. These are his so called Mwandishi years (1970-75?). The best album is called Sextant. If I ever want to completely freak out a new friend, that one is what I play for him. Dont mis out on this one: Herbie Hancock, Sextant.
Love, Hanz.

..... thank you so much brother :-)! I've always been a guitar rock tripper but after touching on some miles the last couple of trips I'm on a whole jazz kick right now! It's so f****** amazing! A genre that I have always respected but never truly explored. Now I am diving in deep. I just can't even explain how deep miles took me on my short but weird journey. Oh wait! You DO know what I'm talking about lol :-)!
.. please check out my link of the Lindberg Hemmer foundation earlier in this post. I absolutely love that music and it is super soothing and luscious. They call it Scandinavian supermarket music! :-) I haven't been able to find anything quite like it! If you can point me to something close to that it would be amazing!
.. and I will definitely definitely try some of that Herbie Hancock I really respect him and would love to learn more of his music! :-) that dark Magus album seems like a pretty intense ride as well!.....thanks for the Love!

John Coltrane's piece titled "Pursuance" is a good example of decent jazz.

Hey, but the link to the Lindberg Hemmer clip doesn't work for me. It says "this video is not available".
I'm now listening to this one, same ?
sweet but mostly harmless... I like higher octane. Although when tripping hard the sweet stuff can be very pleasant I must say.

I've been gaining a greater appreciation of jazz recently as well, in part due to the use of psychedelics. This has always been one of my favorite jazz albums:
And as far as challenging music goes, it's hard to top this:
-------------------- Think, it ain't illegal yet. - George Clinton Substances I have allegedly taken: Cannabis (bud, edibles, and concentrates), Mushrooms (P. Cubensis), LSD, ETH-LAD, ALD-52, DMT, MDMA, Mescaline (Peruvian Torch), 25I-NBOMe, Salvia Divinorum (10x), Syrian Rue, Amanita Muscaria (10x), Cocaine, Nightshade (Henbane). All posts are hypothetical or entirely fictional.

Haha, that Art Tatum track is hilarious! I like my jazz with a lot of notes
What I'm looking for now are modern musicians that combine their electronic sounds with this kind of finesse and superior technique.
I have some of it somewhere, let me look it up...

.....
..... check out the studio stuff more so. It is very sweet and sumptuous but it is also extremely deep and layered with those electronic drum and bass type things that I think you're looking for. Check out the full albums Scandinavian supermarket music and Brazilian architecture! It definitely has psychedelic undertones for real!
.... I have listened to these albums on my come up the last two trips and has been absolutely perfect and everyone else agrees. Just what you need to smoothly take you through the bumpy times :-)!

Guys, check this out:

The Kozmigroov Konnection.
Kozmigroov is a transgressive improvisational music which combines elements of psychedelia, spirituality, jazz, rock, soul, funk, and African, Latin, Brazillian, Indian and Asian influences culminating into an all encompassing cosmic groove.
It's basically a long list of album titles, no downloads. But very good for inspiration on the kind of music we are talking about here.. Miles and Herbie Hancock and a lot of others. That good psychedelic jazz sound from the 70s and beyond.

Yes, those are the ones. Though Bitches Brew is really lonely at the top IMO.
Here's another one that is really in the BB style, when I space out and want it to go on after BB is over I play this one:
Miroslav Vitous "Infinite Search" (1970)
Big overlap in the sound and crew, I think, but without Miles. They make up for it pretty good though.
There's a couple of other ones too, got to jog my memory for that ... I'll be back.
Love, Hanz.
