Laundry oysters
    #22086376 - 08/13/15 11:35 AM (8 years, 5 months ago)

Last year I did a grow using socks, t-shirts, coir, and verm. It worked well but made me curious if I could grow on just clothing so I tried it out.

I started off soaking in warm water for a few minutes then squeezed out as much water as I could, then laid out a shirt and added spawn.

After a few layers of shirts and spawn I rolled it up like a burrito and stuffed it in a bag.

After a few weeks these showed up

Not the most impressive flush but seems like a good way to recycle old clothing.

I'm curious what the shirt looks like after growing a flush. Still usable?

It would be bad ass to try to put the shirt on with the oysters
still attached!!

That would be picture of the month worthy for sure!

Still waiting to pick the first flush. I plan on tearing it open to see how  much it has decomposed, might wait a little to see if it produces a second  flush.

seeing how much spawn u used and how little the flush,
i dare to guess that the fruitbodies were formed relying more or less solely on the spawns energy
and didnt use much/any of your shirt

You could be right ohmatic, i ended up with 109 grams first flush off a bag that weighed 4.6 lbs.

i will give it a bit to see if a second flush comes.

thanks Oysterking, here is the second flush

Looks like i am getting no benefits from the laundry, i will tear it apart in a few days to see if it has broken down at all.

ended up with 167 grams off two flushes. I tore it open and everything still looks pretty much the same as when i loaded it in the bag, only difference i notice is the shirts have become a bit softer and easier to tear.
