small shrooms on my cakes. any advice?
    #22085028 - 08/13/15 06:24 AM (8 years, 5 months ago)

Hey guys,

So I've been growing using the PF Tek for about 6 months or so.  I've gotten pretty good and have WBS colonizing for my first mono right now.  But I'm having a problem consistently that I don't know how to fix.

I'm using MS syringes.  And my mushrooms are really thin and small on my cakes.  I get tons of pins, but all of them seem to lack density.

Should I chalk this up to just genetics or is there anything I can do to promote fruits with more density?  Temperature maybe?  Its around 70-72 right now.

Every once in a while I'll get a big one, and the 2nd flush most always produces a few big ones.  Thanks all!

:whathesaid: but I see you're already on that.

For cakes if you want to support your flushes more, rest the cakes on top of jar lids with a puddle of water on them. Replace the water every day. It'll keep any bacteria on the still water to a minimum. It really helps them absorb more water and make a fuller flush. Also lots of fae and light will help too

Oh don't worry, I'm almost there.  WBS is almost ready.  I followed Frank's Teks and they seem to be going great.  Once I get the experience with Monos I'm going to say goodbye to cakes.

Just tired of getting a shit load of thin, small mushrooms.  I want the big daddys.

Take your biggest mushroom from your cake grows and clone it!! That's how you narrow down the genetics. Then transfer your chosen culture to grain jars and run some mini monos and see how they perform. If a monster fruit pops out, then clone that and repeat the process till you have consistently large fruits!! :awesomenod:

post a pic, theres probably something off with your setup, clogged holes or something missing so FAE isnt where its supposed to be.

you'd be better off just cloning a small pin from a cluster or soemthing, keep them in a vigorous state and not near the end of life.

Does he? They look compacted and starved of fae because of it. If you were going to do that, you should just make monos lol

doesnt that just mean he could have pushed even MORE from those cakes?
I think its a good pic to show cakes dont necessarily suck period.
they can give sucky results. but also really good ones!

but of course if you want pounds just do a mono. wanna let you and some close friends shrooming happy? just do pf-tek
really dependent on what you want from it..

Well they don't HAVE to be.. but idk anyone who would choose those ones over the quality ones.

@space, exactly! Maybe I'm just a perfectionist, but I get mad when I see a flush that could have been better, had I provided the optimal conditions. I do however agree that it does look beastly, and proves cakes can be good.

I just don't get why you wouldn't just use another sgfc or something. Each of those cakes could have made a more prolific flush with an extra $10 chamber. If you wanted to have things that compacted into 1 tub (trying to get the most from 1 tub), just make a mono lol. That's the point I was trying to make.

It's not a competition  we need a smiley that says needs more fae or something.

In all seriousness, I see barely any holes in that chamber.. like 1 hole? Why?!
