80's hits

the shroomery doesn't appreciate the 80's very much. at any given time, there are approximately a fuckton of threads about electronic music in the pub. well, not electronic, but EDM.
lets dedicate a thread to awesome 80's hits that noone ever hears anymore
genre doesnt matter, if its a classic 80's song it goes
Cult of Personality - Living Color
The Who - Eminence Front
Top Gun, anyone?

Too lazy right now to search, but Pink Floyd, Tom Petty, and Dire Straits all kept it pretty real through the 80's.

Don't listen to the first one but know of it, not bad. Good call on Eminence front, had no idea on the name of it and never seen the video. Kenny loggings did the topgun song wow, never would have guessed..couldn't listen very long, it's late and i didn't want to get pumped up..
Don't get me wrong, fairly certain anything i post during the whole run of this thread i do not own (well i do have robert palmer vinyl..)
a-ha - Take on me
You ever see/hear the spoof of "take on me"? So good, check it..do it. "..this guys gonna get an ass full of pipewrench."
Cyndi Lauper - Time after time
Rober Palmer - Addicted to love I can remember loving this song when i was little.

I would be a lot cooler if it was one or two videos at a time. Not quote 3 videos and post four to take up half the page. Sorry, just being honest.

The Pixies - Where is my mind
Eaaarly stuff, not my favorite from them but if you dont know em..you better start to figure it out.
Ween - Hippie Smell
Rofl, this is homefootage..
Ween - I got a weasel

This thread definitely belongs in the music, art, & media forum.
But yeah I agree that the 80's were a good time for music. I don't really care for all those glam metal bands though... I really like the chorus effect pedal sound that a lot of the bands from the 80's tended to use. It seems that was everyone's favorite modulation pedal. Delay pedals were cool too but not as widely used.
Some songs I really like...
Wang Chung - Dance Hall Days
The Go-Betweens - Spring Rain
There is a lot more where that came from. I'll post more soon.

Astral Pain is nailing it in this thread.
There's an 80s thread in OTD made by Shitty Andy, but I'm banned from it despite, or maybe because of, my love for 80s music.
Anyway, one of my all time favorite songs below. I was all excited recently because I found out that TFF added a few tour dates and one of them is only like 70 miles from me, but then I go to buy tickets and they're all like 150-200$ and I'm just not ballin like that.

I suppose the choice of songs depends on how they were introduced and would differ greatly on what age you were or if you were even born yet. The music was all over the place. Like some sort of hippie/disco love child on acid. It's like flipping through a photo album especially for those who grew up at this time.
The Human League - Don't You Want Me
There was some clear disco afterbirth going on.
Blondie - Rapture

Anyway, one of my all time favorite songs below. I was all excited recently because I found out that TFF added a few tour dates and one of them is only like 70 miles from me, but then I go to buy tickets and they're all like 150-200$ and I'm just not ballin like that.
Tears for Fears- Everybody Wants to Rule the World
You should make a support ticket and wipe Shitty Andy off your ass. That's a stellar thread.

Eh, if I'm gonna call in a favor from the staff, it's not about getting into some footie trap thread.
Time After Time & Total Eclipse of the Heart are two of the best btw. Gay for 80s music.
Can you think of a movie that uses that debarge tune? I know I know it from a movie but I can't place it and it's driving me nuts.

I found it was used in a movie called The Last Dragon, but I'm not familiar with the film. This is one of those things that will randomly pop into my head while I'm driving or showering in like 3 days, I'll let you know then.

The 80s was the shittiest times. It's a reminder to us that the Counter Culture revolution of the 60s was a failure and that thanks to the hippies failed cultural initiation the conservative and traditional values right wingers regained control of the cultural vehicle and undid a lot of the good work and progress the Counter Culture revolutionaries made. Thanks to them we got the fucking 80s, we were back to square one and a throwback to the pre-hippie era. The days of psychedelic exploration and free love were over and we were back to being the typical clean cut 9-5 working suburbanites that we were in the 50s. Assholes like Ronald Reagan and his asshole conservative agenda took over, the culture started to get really shitty. People in the 80s had terrible fashion, people stopped doing psychedelics and smoking weed and started doing dangerous shit like cocaine and crack because that's what rock n roll was endorsing at the time.
The 80s was just us going back in time culturally to the 50s. The 80s was a in general a time of conformity and people bough into ignorance and bullshit a lot easier like all the anti-drug shit that started in the 80s and early 90s like the whole "just say no" slogan. We are only now recently have begun to undo the damage that the 80s caused by becoming more progressive and legalizing cannabis, not buying into the ignorant anti-drug propaganda, and becoming more liberal about drug use.
The 80s sucked, my parents and a lot of the shitty adults from their generation who hold on to shitty conservative values and beliefs are products of the 80s.
