Wild Ganoderma clone-and-grow!
    #22083386 - 08/12/15 08:43 PM (8 years, 5 months ago)

So my girlfriend found this Ganoderma growing on a stump on the
grounds of the university she attends:

They grow everywhere out here and if I had to guess, I'd say the stump is
an oak stump, but I could be wrong as I wasn't there when she spotted it.

I had her take a small piece for me to clone and she left the rest to do
what it does.

I forgot to snap a photo of the original plate, but before the inoc.
I did a couple transfers to store the culture. Please forgive the
condensation they've been in cold storage for a couple weeks now,
also my phone camera sucks!:

Here's an underside shot:

Ok so original culture was tiger dropped to 1 quart of standard prep WBS
on 8/3. Here it is jumping to the grain after only 24 hours:

tigerdrop

On the 10th the jar was fully colonized:

Please excuse my spelling errors! I was stoned as could possibly be when I
made the tag:lol:

Here's one with it next to my pupping trich:

It was hard as hell to bust up those grains, but I managed to do it
with the help of a fat roll of painters plastic I use for liners.

Master jar was G2G'd to two, 5 quart spawn bags of WBS supplemented with
rice bran last night, the 11th. I know most recommend wheat bran, but I thought, why not?

These will be spawned to 2 monotubs of fuel pellets or sawdust and coir.
Haven't really decided yet.

I will be updating this thread as it progresses. Thanks
for givin' it a look!

UPDATE:

So my bags fully colonized on the 21st

Here's 1

And here is number 2

I spawned them to two 66qt monotubs, with 1 and a half of bricks coir and 3 quarts of sawdust each, plus 1 cup of gypsum.

The tubs are looking great now, but I forgot to take pictures, and I
am at school on the library computer, so I will have to get back to you
guys with those photos!

UPDATE:8/26

Here are those photos I promised! This is from this morning:

And tub 2:

Tub 1 is almost finished and is showing a little metabolite formation
already.

Tub 2 is a little behind but is still running strong...I think

UPDATE: 8/27

So today i have primordia formation in tub 1!

My phone camera sucks, so please excuse the picture quality:

Pinset is not that great, I'm hoping it improves, but I am happy either way.

Here are some close-ups of the blobs

Super stoked for tub 2 which is still a little behind.
It looks the same as the last update with a little more metabolites

The metabolites apear to be orange but they are actually clear.
The orange color is from light refraction. It had me worried
at first!

UPDATE: 8/31/15

The tubs are going much faster than I thought they would!

I'm starting to get a little antsy! These pictures are from yesterday.
I'll try to get today's pictures up later today when I'm out of class.
Tub 1

Tub 2

Tub 1 is ahead of tub 2, but tub 2s pinset is much better.

Also, tub 2 has  little sprinkles of uncolonized sawdust and coir on the surface of the sub. Not sure why it's not colonizing, but if you
look at a blown up picture of tub 2, you'll see what I mean.

And finally, here is a close up of a blob picking up some color for your enjoyment!

Thanks for viewing!

UPDATE: 9/7

Hello all!

So the tubs are coming along nicely.

Tub 1 appears to have slowed and my antlers are not really
forming the way I had hoped.

Tub 2 on the otherhand is doing much better! It has a much better
pinset and better aesthetics.

Here are some picturs of both tubs:

Tub 1

Tub 2:

As you can see the fruits in tub 1 appear to be mature
even though they have gone through little growth, while
Tub 2 is pushing out nice antlers!

I plan on making a tincture once this batch finishes up
and i have a culture from another shroomerite that i plan
on starting up soon!

Reishi will be everywhere hopefully!!!!

Last but not least, here's a picture of my favorite blob from tub 2

Thanks for checkin it out!

UPDATE: 9/20

Been a minute but here's an update!

Tub 1 came down with the mean green so I harvested the fruits and
put the sub outside. We'll see if it does anything. I managed to
harvest just over 2 ozs dry from the tub before throwing it out
so I'm not that mad.

Tub 2 is doing awesome and I am currently trying to induce conk formation.
Here are a few pics of tub 2. I forgot to take pics of tub 1 before
harvest, sorry folks!

Thanks for checkin' them out guys

Update 10/16

So yesterday I harvested the tub because it was starting to smell
a little funky and I haven't noticed much new growth in the past week
or so.

I hung the sub outside in the shade after a good dunk to see if I can
get a second flush out of it! For your enjoyment, I took some pics of
the main players in the tub! enjoy!

Tub before harvest:

My favourite little guys:
This one grew through the polyfil a little

Dry weight was 155 grams. Not great but I am definitely happy with it!
Not too shabby for a first attempt and a wild clone culture! If I see
a second flush, I'll make sure to update this thread further.

Thanks for checking it out!

Will do some reishi cloning in a couple of days too.
Will watch this thread for comparison. Thanks for putting it up and please continue making updates.

Hey thanks man ya I am super excited about it!

I have a lot of projects going right now but I am most
excited about this one.

Make a log of yours as well and post up here so I can check it
out!

Do you know what species yours is?

I think its a G. lucidum, growing from the side of a mango tree. I made a tea before and it was so bitter. Though I'm not quite sure. Have you identified yours?

It has a nice lacquer, so I don't think it's Applanatum,
and it is mostly red with slight yellowing at the tips so
I don't think it is Curtisii, and it didn't seep any resin so
it's not Resinaceum as far as I know.
I think it is a Tsugae.

I would say Lucidum, but I have read that true Lucidum doesn't
grow in North America, but that may be horsecockery

Where are you located? Ganoderma resinaceum complex is a good guess with the given info.

Ganoderma lucidum does not grow natively in North America, there may be a few wild escapees though. So far there is no concrete evidence of its occurance here anyways.

G.curtisii can end up being deep red like other Ganoderma, but your's does not fit the typical morphology for G.curtisii. The resin is not always apparent, most easily seen when pricking or cuting the white edge of the mushroom. And even then sometimes it wont bleed every time you prick it. The easiest way to distinguish G.resinaceum complex from other Ganodermas is the spores, G.resinaceum and its relatives have "smooth" type spores.

G.curtisii, G.lucidum, G.tsugae and most other Ganodermas instead have a "rough" type spore.

You are probably right, I just did not notice any oozing at all.

That's some great info man, thanks!

I need to get a microscope. There is a shop here called analytical scientific
that has just about anything lab related that you could ask for.
I need to bite the bullet and just buy one already.

Ya I had heard Lucidum doesn't grow here, maybe it was from you, as
I have read a lot of your threads and comments on reishi pages
I am in south Texas, by the way.

Did the stump happen to be pecan? I would be interested in possibly trading for your culture so I can have it sequenced.

You know, I have no idea really.

It was my girlfriend who found it and I can't clearly
see the stump from the picture. If I had to guess, I
would say it's an oak because I know a lot of oak trees
grow on the campus where she found it.

If you would like a sample of the culture, I would be more than
happy to send one out to you!

Where did you take the ganoderma tissue from? Top? Beneath?

Took a conk and busted it in half, then took a piece of
tissue from inside the white growing tip.

Thanks. The reason I asked is I want to clone a turkeytail that is growing on a tree in somebody's yard. I don't have the option of taking it whole off the tree--the owner probably has no idea what is growing on his tree, but it still isn't  mine to harvest. What I am planning to do is quick quick scrape some tissue from the underside of the bracket and hope for the best.
