Maybe, maybe not, but apparently it's the largest ever recorded.
- estimated to be 50 years old - 20 feet long - 5,000 pounds

Not sure where Guadalupe Island is (could look but too lazy). Where's the guy that killed the historic lion not too long ago, maybe he can ruin this too..

Legit photo. In fact I think that photo is just a still of actual video.

their coverage of putting tiger sharks to sleep momentarily kind of blew my mind, as well as the coverage of the world wide shark trade. i knew it was pretty disgusting, but i didn't know it was that widespread and that ugly. we need to check ourselves as a species....

Saw a short deal on how they are sinking blocks that have tubes secured on one end so they float up and around as if it was a kelp forest and they are adding some sort of magnetism to deter sharks in surfer/highly populated areas. It's in the early stages i believe and I'm giving very little detail about it but it caught my attention, pretty cool idea.

Saw that. PETA is protesting, though. Said that it's not fair to push the sharkies back since they had first dibs on the ocean.

Pussies. ..push em back. Give us some space (even tho im not big on water stuff), they can have the other 60%.
I have a shark in a bottle, assuming it must be in formaldehyde. Parents got it from FL and gave it to me about 16 years ago. Sitting on my dresser as we speak, kind of gross but pretty cool *shrug*.
It's about 9" long.

I feel like their may have been a bigger one recorded in South Africa a few decades ago, idk, I'll google it.
They're very rare to come across in the wild, for divers, there's some really controversial baiting tactics for cage dives that strike me as dangerous. BUT if you ever feel like having an encounter with a great white outside of a cage, head to Guadalupe and find these guys. http://www.nautilusexplorer.com/guadalupe_great_white_shark_diving I don't think they've had any incidents, and you have safety divers escorting you.
On another note, one time I had an almost "encounter" with one. I was diving in the Caribbean with a friend of the family - and great whites are pretty uncommon there because the waters a bit warm for their taste. Suddenly we saw this huge massive shark shaped shadow, much much muuuuch bigger than the sharks that are common in that area, slowly approaching us from afar. We kind of pissed ourselves, and both hunkered on the bottom on the sea bed cuz t the surface is by far the most dangerous place for shark encounters. It comes closer, and we realized that it was a big ass submarine with people staring at us out the windows and taking pictures.

so fucking weird.
edit: d'oh this actually was in South Africa. Shocker.

Yeah, it was definitely a bit surreal. I knew they had glass bottom boats but I never knew about the submarine tours so it kind of shocked me.
And sharks investigate shit by bumping you and sometimes taking a little nibble...which depending on the species can be a big problem. Shark was just trying to figure out wtf they were. Great Whites are ambush predators, if they're swimming around you, chances are you're safe. It's always safer to be under the water with them then up on the surface. Abalone divers are the only types of divers that have a reason to be legitimately concerned with great white attacks on a regular basis.

It might be legal to take White Sharks off Guadalupe Island. you would need big gear to land a 5000 pounder, and you would have to tail wrap it and drag it to be eligible for the world record (no firearms aloud).
most people don't have the balls for that

why bother with all that?
i would love to go out on a boat and chum the water. it really doesn't matter where tbh, white sharks are found not only in the pacific coast lines inlcuding the us and australia, but also the eastern coastlines of the US.
anyway. i think it'd be pretty dope to do several plunges having studied the behaviors and practiced how to deal with them before hand. then once you get a good idea of what to expect, drop a tab or two of some nice L.
maybe i do have more balls than i thought, this is something i would definietly be interested in doing. in b4 "ur crazy" "you're an idiot"
