Some growth in month-old jars

I inoculated some jars almost 2 months ago, and after about 3 weeks with no signs of growth I kind of just gave up on them and forgot about them. However, today I glanced at the last few that I haven't gotten around to cleaning out yet, and I noticed some white growth in two of the jars. Here are some pictures of it in one of the jars. I'm wondering, is this some kind of contamination or is there any chance that this is mycelium just growing very late?

Looks like myc to me
From the top there is kind of weird. Watch it closely, if it spreads like wildfire then that's not good.

2 months? Wow. It must be pretty dry. Well, if they somehow come to fruit some day it will be a little like a 52 year old woman getting pregnant.

Do you think it could've been caused by the cakes being too dry? I was always careful of putting too much water in because I had read that too much moisture would lead to contaminations.

When inoculating your jar did you see the liquid run down the side of the jar or possibly end up getting a lot of it in your verm layer

I would have re-inoculated after a week or two with no signs of growth. Your jars have some really wispy odd looking growths but I think they are mycelium, too.

Yep, saw it running down the down the side of the jar, but it is possible that some of it could have gotten into the dry verm layer a bit in a couple of the jars. Do you think this would cause delayed germination? Or maybe that the white growth is not mycelium?

I did re-inoculate 6 of the 12 original jars about two weeks after the initial inoculation, but unfortunately I don't know if these two jars were in the re-inoculated group or the other group. If it is mycelium, do you think that there is anything I can do to help it grow healthier?

The best thing you can do to cultivate mycelium is to be patient and just let it happen. Inoculating again was a good call on your part as long as you took sterile measures.
If the inoculant did not make it past the dry verm, yes growth would have been stalled a bit but not much because the water in the solution would have dampened the verm making it easier for the spores to germinate and colonize the sterile sub.

I don't think the spores would have germinated of they were just inn the dry vermiculite. Looks like someone made a spore syringe from old spores. Re shooting pf jars is a good way to contaminate a good syringe. Too risky to stick something good and sterile into a cake that has unknown issues.

So are you saying that the white growth would not be mycelium because the spores are too old? Or maybe just that the reason why it took so long to germinate is because the spores are so old?

Can you show us how big the holes in the top of the jars are? Lack of proper gas exchange seems to stunt mycelial growth; at least, in my experience.

As spores they don't have mycelial growth. You can germinate on agar with no gas exchange. I agree with Tahoe. Don't reinoculate things. Just make more jars while waiting. Spores do sound old.

I have to ask, Mad Season, is your username related to the former sponsor The Mad Season? I missed that site, was great while it lasted

Nah no relation. It used to be run by RR and his wife, but since she passed away he shut it down. My name was actually inspired from the 90s grunge band that had a lineup consisting of members from Alice in chains, pearl Jam, and screaming trees

I had no idea RR was TMS^
I love alice in chains!
I remember when Layne Staley died and no one gave a fuck. When it was Kurt Cobain... (Why the fuck did i say megadeth? Was mixing Dave Mustaine up with someone else)

You'd probably love mad season man. It's Layne who's the lead singer, and for some reason the songs in it are way better than AIC. It's a lot more grunge psychedelic, over grunge metal. This was when Layne and others tried to get over heroine with psychedelics. Imo, it's the best, and they only made 1 album you can see Layne in my signature. He's in the back left.
Also yeah. It's sad what happened to TMS and RR.
