Past time for an update.  Brugs respond and grow similar to mj.  I flipped the room to 12/12 with a high pressure sodium.  I was worried my baby brug would flower.  She is starting to.  Not only has benzualaa branched and set a few flowers, but she has shot several giant shoots up from all over.  Currently she is about 4-5 inches from the 1k hps.  She has taken over my room, my mind and consumes a good part of my life.... she speaks to me!  I may be insane.

I had planned on growing her to 6 ft. then flower, but instead she has gone bush style.  I'm gonna keep her as a mother plant and utilize alot of the shoots coming off.  I'm gonna leave the giant shoots alone however.  Very excited.

I need some pollen.  Problem is these are cultivar so we won't get a true copy unless from a clone.

I thought so,and this is why none of my brugs never produced any seed.

Looking fantastic hunter!! She's a gorgeous specimen. Do you happen to know the cultivar name? I have a very similarily variegated brug. Mine is a Brugmansia suoveolens 'snowbank'. It's probably my favourite plant. It's going to be 3 years old this summer and it's about 5 feet tall. She looks like ganache right now cuz of the Canadian winter, but she's waking up!!!! I'll post pics soon, if you go back in the thread I'm sure I posted pictures of her most impressive flower set last season in here.

And I concur with what you said about the plant taking up your attention.. I've spent hours just sitting with my brugs on clear nights in the summer. I like to go out during bright moons and smoke a joint and just chill beside them. I swear you can hear them singing and see them dancing in the star light. Absolutely captivating plants. I hope mine lives as long as I do.

I just lost 5 seedlings this winter for a red flowered hybrid. Was pretty devastating to say the least. I babied them all summer just to have them freeze to death in the garage before January.

This year I'm going to grab more seeds and i know a few other growers who id like to go trade brug cuttings with as well. But the size of the mature plants deters me from starting a real collection right now.

Anyway good job man! Awesome plant.

Unfortunately no I don't know the true name.  I had mentioned to the botanists that one of the clones had taken root.  They were more interested if the variegation had followed through.  One made a remark that they "hadn't thought of that". As in taking a clone.  Maybe they were joking??  My plan is to take a nicely rooted specimen or two and gift it back to them.

It Would be really neat if I could get some pollen off someone hint hint.

Then I could make some nice seed pods and see what comes out.  Yea one problem I see is this fAll when i bring her back inside I will need a completely seperate 1000 watt just for her.

A few questions.  Will she stay short and just keep branching and blooming?  The side sprouts are just about 3/4 to the top of the main stem.  Are those going to outgrow the main stem?  Kinda seems like it.  After the bloom set should I cut the branch and expect her to grow tall?

I think I messed up and made a bush.  I was really going for the 6 foot umbrella shaped tree of flowers.  Most likely she is gonna be a bush oh well.  I'm gonna keep up on the others and focus on umbrella trees.

As for secrets I avoid phosphorous for the most part in high doses at least.  All natural super soil.  You can get a basic soil by following sub cools super soil.  Also She got a good dose of sst's, aact's and now some experimental fpe's...

Sst sprouted seed (corn, barley, etc) tea
AAct actively aerated compost tea.  Bat guano, ewc, molasses... Different amounts and types of guano depending on the mj grow period.  I've held off of the high phos guano tea at least not a ton.

Fpe fermented plant extract (dandelion, or kelp,or stinging nettle) only gave her the kelp fpe so far

Oh and I've been experimenting and fed her some lacto b ,,, I went a little further and made my style of em1..

Also these plants love to be fed they love being picked and pruned and defoiliated.  Also they grow tall and lean under a 1000 watt metal halide.  The leaves really get wide and she will get super bushy a week or two after flipping to hps at a 12/12 cycle.  Also that seems to signal flower time.  I think

Thanks for all the kind comments.

Now for the weird shit.

I was a little faded and really got up in her and Defoliated watered and spent some time with her.  As I was sitting there it looked like two eyes were looking at me formed from the stalk.  As I stared I could hear a beautiful women's voice with an accent she would say benzzuuellaaa. Hard to type and describe the tone and beautiful accent she had.  I know I'm weird.

Logically I named her Benzuella.  I decided to google the meaning.  Closest thing I came up with was Venezuala.  Lol. Maybe her thick accent and the fact she is a plant talking to me telepathically made it sound like a b...  Anyway maybe she was just telling me where she is from.  now I get the feeling she is home sick.  I would bet the original genetics are from somewhere in Venezuela.  Weirdo I know.

If it's a cultivar you may not be able to get viable seed even with pollen. Brugs can self pollinate can they not? Mine is a cultivar and it doesn't even make seed pods. The flowers just die and they fall off, no pod afterwards. I was under the impression the cultivars can only be propegated by cuttings. Even if you pollinated and seeded it I wouldn't expect the variegation to come through in the seeds.

Why do you avoi phosphorous? Just to limit flowering for now? Or do you keep it low all year?

1000w is a little overkill for such a small plant. Mine is 5 feet tall and it thrives under a 600w MH. Of course given the option I would go with a 1000w also lol! Of course I only keep mine under artificial light in the winter. She loves to be outside in the fresh air!! Last year she had leaves the size of dinner plates!

And yes bro I totally feel you, these plants do feel sentient. I think they like being touched, they definitely like being talked to, and they respond well to being picked up and pruned. I'll give mine hugs every now and again.

I don't think you sound like a weirdo at all, but then again I'm doing all the same plant freak things you're doing so...

I give it a well rounded amendment.  I don't boost these with phos because I read this page once.  I guess there aren't any scientific reasons given.

Oh yea.  I've noticed all my friends with grows even my veg room is full of annoying little gnats.  Ha not in my flower room.  If any make it in a few hours later the poor buggers are dead and piled up on the brug leaves.  I havnt had any bug problems since she has taken over the room.

I noticed that when I had my Daturas in my room, all the fungus gnats would  end up dead, stuck to the leaves:lol:

haha what a coincidence! I went to a garden store today to buy some plants. I found a big brugsmansia one for sale. I picked a leaf, took it home and a friend, aquaintance and I smoked about half all up. Headache, zoning out and slight confusion is all I got with no perceptual change or trippy feelings.. Yes I am well aware this plant is poisonous however smoking it is probably the safest way to consume it.

I eat datura seeds all the time as an anti emetic, sleep aid, dream enhancer, antihistamine, and opiate potentiator. If your careful with your dosing it's extremely effective and very safe. YMMV.

awesome plants, I love those variegated ones.  I killed mine pretty efficiently :frown:

For those of you growing in MJ room, Brugmansia are nasty spider mite magnets...careful.

Ill snap some pics of some wild ones in the mountains here.  boring flowers, but so far the heaviest scented ones i have ever seen!  when they are in full bloom, the valley awakens!

as an aside, if people are having rot problems with rooting, they do way better in mineral based stuff.  in the wild here they often root easily in stream beds/banks which are all rocky.  cuttings are the same.  I used to have huge rot problems when i used various soils to root them.  switched to clay pellets or grit/rocks etc and havent had problems since.
