Yeah, they always do better inside under lights. They are just bug magnets outdoors, Datura too! I'll probably not get to see nay Datura blooms this year mine are eaten up so badly with bugs. My yard is infested!

You have to have two plants from different stock, this is why I never get any seed pods either.

Tried with a swab, also no luck. It appears one must cross varieties for a chance of seed pods growing.
But more knowledgeable ppl, please do chime in..

So, my mother Brugmansia is yellow, and all the clones are from her. I would never be able to cross them, because they are from the same exact genetic make up as their mother.
Now, if I found another Yellow Brug, not from my line of plants, then I could cross them, and get seed.
I do believe this is all you have to do.

Well, mine is white.
But theoretically we could send each other swabs and we might both be able to pull off a cross right

It's a possibility, they may not have to be of the same color, but I thought that since we both have different colors, that means different species of Brugmansia. Will that work? I have Brugmansia aurea, what is yours?

I've noticed that my Burgmansia tree had stopped producing new blooms after beginning doing so last month...
It also appears as though it has developed chlorosis. Its the first time I've noticed this condition on the plant so Tomorrow I'll be weeding out the base of the tree, prune all dead branches and promptly fertilize it thereafter. I'm not sure if it may have anything to do with the age of the plant. For it was already completely established when I got the place a few years ago, so I'd estimate that the plant would be at least 8 years old, Likely much older.

I'm curious if anyone has seen one of these plants go through its final years of life. would this be how it begins to manifest, or is the condition not in any way related to the age of the plant?
I've placed a few hardwood cuttings in water to propagate and one softwood cutting dipped in root starter hormones, then straight into soil. Just as a precaution in case the mother plant deteriorates any further.

They like to eat. Hard to say. You could get the soil tested. Some shops can do that for ya. I killed mine. Not enough water and too cold. It was a bad time in my life and let her go. Sucks. If she hasn’t been fed any good organic nutes I’d try that. Maybe some earth worm casting’s blood meal, bone meal, etc top dressed and watered in couldn’t hurt. Look up organic super soil.

I believe that it may be experiencing a nutrient deficiency of some sort. It was also competing with quite a few plants, grasses and weeds. I may have contributed the spread of grass around the plant when I threw mower clippings around the base as mulch last year. Won't be making that mistake again.
Regardless I've shown the plant plenty of TLC today. I've cleared the area around it of any competing plants, pruned all dead branches, taken a few more cuttings for propagation & gave it one hell of a feeding... Haven't completely finished today. Tomorrow I just need to finish layering compost and organic matter around the base and ensure that any nearby competing root systems which were too stubborn to dig out, are completely smothered and have no chance of resurgence.
here's a little "after" snapshot;

It's the first time that I've ever had easy access to all sides of the plant. I'm sure its been years since its received this much attention.

Nick, brugs can handle very heavy pruning like this very well. It should bounce back well and put on some nice growth.

Hell yes, a Brugmansia growers thread!
My Brug just started flowering a couple weeks ago. One morning when the sun was up I went and saw the first flowers that had opened overnight. I wondered why the flowers didn't smell much. I always read about how wonderful they smell. I was confused.
I went outside the other night cause there was an opossum in the garden and noticed the flowers in all their glory. I went to look and smell and yum, smelled so good! I loved the plant even more. I thought it was so cool how they produce scent at night. The moon was shining bright that night too. How did I miss that bit of info about this plant!? Anyway...

A month and a half later and its looking much better with newly forming blooms to boot.

Almost all the cuttings I've taken seem to be doing well, two of which are thriving and only one has died.

Nice and organic. Gonna repeat myself and say I’m gonna get a cutting. Prolly trade some myc for a cut. Gotta set up a little prop area and get her ready for the spring. Thanks for the inspiration. Can’t wait to see your blooms. Would be cool to swap pollen at some point too. I did save some from my last plant definitely gonna try to do something with that on my next grow.
