Are you suggesting, given our constitution and the balance of power, checks and balances and courts that a Chavez or Hitler like candidate could get elected in the US, and become a dictator?
Is that your position?

If the country elected an asshole like the current occupant of the Oval Office, little is beyond possible.
One need only look at the candidates from both parties to realize that.

Hitler took control of a labor party and used it to turn the government into an autocracy as quickly as he could.
Hitler absolutely despised the Bolsheviks, this is well known. To say Hitler is a socialist is to say that Kim Jong Un is a democratic republican of the people.

Why must these conversations always degrade to Nazi Germany? We have the internet now, folks. Good luck installing a dictatorship. Even if one party supported such a thing, the other party would succeed. The country would split ten different ways, and we would have war over it. We 'Muricans aren't likely to submit to a hostile takeover laying down. This is our government, and when we flex our muscle uniformly, it bends quite fast to our will.
The way Donald Trump has been talking for he past 6 months, and given his personality, I think he's the most likely candidate for dictator. Not Bernie fucking Sanders!!! Lmao

Erna Solberg, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, Stefan Löfven, and Sauli Niinistö ran as Democratic Socialists. Chavez ran as a Communist, and if you know anything about history, you know that Hitler hijacked the Socialist movement in Germany, and called himself a Socialist to gain favor amongst the people. He was not a Socialist, as we all know. He was a Fascist.

Reagan would never have been elected today. He talked way too moderate.

Modern conservatives are so desperate to find the utopia of the 50s on our nation's timeline, that they're way back in 1895 looking for it.
Plainly speaking: in an attempt to re-conservative our nation by walking back our steadily leftist march, the modern conservatives are frantically adopting policies from the Gilded Age wondering why the prosperity hasn't showed up yet.
But it has, and for the same people that it showed up for in the Gilded Age. Nearly ALL new wealth since 2008/9 has gone to the oligarchs, yet the right wingers remain vigilant in their certainty that the tides will turn.
Any day now.
