I think it's just wishful thinking. Unless there's a major revelation in the case, nothing is going to happen to her.
I somewhat agree, but at the same time I don't think Republicans are just going to sit idly by and let her get away with it. I'm just hoping that enough people lose faith in her capability of winning the general election.

I think it would be highly likely for Obama to pardon her if she went to prison. She actually should get this shit out of the way asap so that Obama's still president if she catches some heat from it.

Good god that makes me happy, although I know it shouldn't. Clinton's campaign response was bullshit, basically, agencies differ in their ratings. While that may be true, if two agencies describe something as Top Secret, it's highly unlikely that it somehow isn't classified at all. Doesn't look like there's much of a way around it at this point, she had classified information on a private server, which is a crime. It will be interesting to see the official response to this.

Going to be hard for the DOJ to ignore this.
It sounds like they're not targetting her. It sounds like they're going after the people that sent her the emails.

No official announcement has been made from what I can see in the article. But if It is confirmed that Clinton received emails containing information that was then considered Top Secret, it would be a crime and she could be, and should be, charged.

Yeah, I suppose we will see. One thing that I really am pessimistic about is the capacity for our judicial system to punish wealthy folks, especially with as much power as the Clintons. They just don't do it. I can't help but think of the Hilton boy who threatened the pilot, flight attendant, and passengers on an airplane, then disconnected the smoke alarm in the bathroom to smoke a joint, and nothing happened to him. It's really depressing to see this two-tier system in action.
Are these emails part of what she attempted to wipe from the server? If she tried to hide them, then she's in a lot more trouble than she would be for just having them.

Gotta keep in mind though, that the GOP controls both the Senate and House of Representatives and together have a lot of oversight, investigative and subpoena power. No doubt they'll use everything they've got against Hillary.
When you start putting people under oath, that changes things.

If Hillary is toxic, wouldn't it improve their chances at the White House significantly to let her win the nomination, THEN do all that stuff?

Yeah like when James Clapper lied to Congress under oath and was promptly charged and prosecuted.
The government is a mob and Hillary is a made man. She's not going to jail, she's not getting prosecuted, and none of her staffers are LITERALLY going to risk being murdered by testifying or making a deal.

When a story takes on a life of its own and you get the press, the FBI and all the investigative IG's involved, I think it becomes very difficult to control the timeline and even the narrative. This story definitely is running on its own power right now and this will continue.
There are times when the party "strategy" can control things and there are times when they can't.

Ultimately there's heads of committees, the FBI, people at the top who make the decisions and pull the levers. People whom I'm sure are on speaking terms with the Clintons.
When you've dodged every scandal tossed your way for two decades, and there's a shitload of them, you build a relationship with law enforcement and the judiciary.

I've never bought into that belief that any one person can control all these people. Bill Clinton couldn't stop the Lewinskly investigation, Nixon couldn't stop watergate, Reagan couldn't stop Iran/Contra ... A lot of the people in these agencies have jobs that go well beyond the political cycle of one president to the next and they are difficult to control. There are a lot of mechanisms to leak information and whistelblower programs that create end runs around efforts to squelch stuff. I think it can happen when a story is below the radar, but when it's blinking the way this story is, there's a lot of risk in trying to squelch it.
That's not to say they're not trying, but, let's face it ... obviously if they're trying to do this they've been unsuccessful as the story just keeps getting bigger and bigger. Clinton's numbers and popularity are tanking. Whatever they are trying to do to tamp this thing down hasn't worked.

In addition to what KauaiOrca said, keep in mind that there isn't that much time between the primaries and the general. Especially if Sanders manages to draw out the primary fight, waiting for Clinton to win could leave only a couple months for this whole thing to explode. It's in the Republican's best interest to make sure this investigation is proceeding as fast as possible.

Yes, but these things can be drawn out over years. Its not like they're going to get a conviction before the primaries, but if they can get her in court, it should be enough to do her in.
Its amazing that candidates on both sides this year are being charged with criminal charges related to their previous political positions. Well, I guess Hillary hasn't been chwrged yet.

Exactly what I was thinking, typically there's a couple fall guys but the institution stays intact. The Clintons pretty much are an institution at this point though.

In Hillary's case, a failure would be that she doesn't even get the nomination. Two total failures even though she started out as a heavy favorite in both 08 and 12. Worst candidate ever. Let's face it, she's not going to jail because she'd get pardoned and that's the way it is. But her legacy would be that of a very dirty candidate that got taken out because of self inflicted wounds/scandals and that the country saw her as a serial liar.
But let's not get carried away ... she's not going to jail.
