Things just got easier
    #2208056 - 12/29/03 05:26 PM (12 years, 11 months ago)

As many here in the US have seen, if you watch tv that is, there's a new product that Glad has been advertising. It's a type of microwavable, and might I say very tangible plastic wrap.

With their new Press n Seal plastic wrap, one is able to form an air tight seal by simply laying the film over a container and pushing down on the edges. It's crazy stuff. I was thinking of using this stuff over the conventinal plastic wrap, hoping to facilitate the production of sterilization via the microwave.

I'm hoping to use this stuff in making a nice lil greenhouse since it looks so damn easy. Also, since the stuff is microwavable, I'm thinking of making mycobags with it.

Anyways, here's a link to the website if you want some more info. I was thinking maybe these could help in the production of some new teks. There's my two cents.

Would be great for covering casings during incubation... Thanks!

Not exactly advanced but eh....

I've seen it and thought about it as well. Looks interesting but i'm skeptical as to what exactly it can cling to.

This would be good for pasteurization of bulk substrates(straw and poo).

Great minds think alike.

The first time I saw that commercial I said "Holy Shit!" immidiately got in my car, drove to the local grocer and found that they were not yet stocking it. : (

I'm waiting.

I live near Boston, which is usually a test-market for new products.

We've had that sticky cling wrap for more than 6 months now.

I'm currently using it to cover a casing in incubation. It works great. It's not that easy to see through but you can peel it back and reseal it as much as you want to.

cling wrap or press'n'seal? cling wrap is the plastic wrap crap that glad offers, we are disussing, press'n'seal, its much better IMO and completely differnt then cling wrap. but it has been in the stores for awhile, if u cant find it locally your simply not looking hard enough, check large supermarkets, all my mom and pop stores dont carry it yet, but all the big guys have shelves stocked with it.

My Hammy picked up a roll today actaully. Worked great for covering not only the casing tray but also the bowl that the casing was microwave "sterilized" in. Unlike cling wrap, you can actually seperate it when it stick to itself.

The product itself it very interesting. It's using some sort of texture (probably a novel molecular structure) to grip. It seems to be best at gripping polymers, it sort of sticks to skin, and I didn't check to see how it stuck to smooth surfaces such as glass or metal, but I'd be surprised if there was a problem.

Not only has this product found a new home in my Hamsters mycolab, but a home in my kitchen as well.

the only problem ive noticed with it so far, is the surface must be dry, if its wet or even damp, it slides right off.
