Freddie Gray incriminating leaks

It seems as though the defense for the police officers accused of killing Freddie Gray have found out that Mr. Gray has a history of "crash for cash" schemes - injuring himself in law enforcement settings in order to collect cash settlements-. This information was known by the prosecution and told to keep quiet...but was leaked....According to the Baltimore Sun.
Sort of changes the complexion of things, huh.(If it is truth)

The prosecution has made plenty of mistakes, but they wanted immediate gratification when they charged the cops, but that's all going to come out sooner or later.

Kinda fucked up to think that a riot may have been started because of a douchebag trying to get cash from the city...and overdoing his injuries to the point of breaking his neck...... I have to admit that I've been on the fence about this whole thing but now I'm leaning toward supporting the cops that got caught up in this mess.

Hadn't looked into this case really, but that information definitely seems to cast some serious doubt on the theory that rough driving caused his death.
Police vehicles really should have some kind of "black box" setup so that it's trivial to find out exactly how they were driven when circumstances like this come up. A video camera in the prisoner compartment would also have been helpful in determining exactly what happened.

What's funny about this smear against gray, if true, just demonstrates how reliably incompetent or negligent the police are that you could run a scam like this.
Most likely, this information is a complete misrepresentation of some legal issue gray had in his past. Considering this is leaked information coming from the defense, where is the meat? I mean this kind of thing would be in the public record. Where is it? Gimme a break, you're being played.

i thought the whole point of getting paid off was so it didn't go to court, aka no record?
and it doesn't demonstrate anything, other than scumbags who sue for a living can find a way to sue anyone, including the police.

of course freddie gray frequently injuring himself for cash settlements shouldn't be rellevent.......said no one.
public record? you have no clue what your talking about. most times when companies know their going to lose they settle out of court and make the "victim" sign a waiver that they'll drop the case so it wouldn't be public record. nice try though koods
my old company just did the same thing in a case with a guy that was butthurt he was fired. my old company knew they would lose so it was settled out of court.

No, What's funny is how pathetically weak of a case the prosecution has. I wouldn't be surprised if the whole thing gets thrown out before it ever gets heard. You really hate cops don't you? You don't get it. Police departments are corrupt. They are run like a gang and the individual officers either play ball or their careers will go nowhere.
Read the sun article. The defense is receiving leaks from the police department. How does that fact right there not put into focus how the police corrupt and impede the prosecution of the rank and file. The police work for the prosecution, not the criminals being prosecuted. Imagine any other case where the police are undermining the very job they are entrusted with, and fed information to a drug dealer or serial killer.
And what was leak? That there was "information" that gray was running scam. They don't say evidence. The defense is complaining that state didn't investigate this information themselves to see if they had merit. Where is the actual evdence they he did anything like this? This story is days old. Your telling me that the defense, reporters haven't been able to find anything ? If they had it would be reported.
I feel like oeoe read these stories but don't take the time to understand the motives of th actors involved.
The police who work for the state tell the defense that there's info making gray look bad. They say there's info. They don't say what it is. If grey had sued the city or settled there would be records. That's how you know this story is bulkshit say something to make the victim look bad in order to make the defendants look less culpable

Who cares what the settlement was, its not relevant to what I said. I said if Gray was trying to scam the city, he would have to sue and there would be a public record of that just like there is a record of the suit you specified.

I didn't know that. you taught me something
edit: after reading a bit more what you found seems to be a motion that earnest filed. this is nothing about the case itself. if freddie sued and didn't file a motion it wouldn't show up either correct.
all you found is a motion, that doesn't mean freddie filed a motion.
find something on the case itself, not a motion filed. if you find it I'll believe you

as opposed tot he corruption of the prosecution who is supposed to deliver that information themselves to the defense and clearly are not doing. maybe you're unfamiliar with the term 'discovery'. it's about evidence disclosure so that both sides go into this legal proceeding fully armed with the evidence needed to present their case and if the defense is having to get their information from a 3rd party instead of directly from the prosecution then it's clear that the corrupt one is the prosecution
Quote:
discovery n. the entire efforts of a party to a lawsuit and his/her/its attorneys to obtain information before trial through demands for production of documents, depositions of parties and potential witnesses, written interrogatories (questions and answers written under oath), written requests for admissions of fact, examination of the scene and the petitions and motions employed to enforce discovery rights. The theory of broad rights of discovery is that all parties will go to trial with as much knowledge as possible and that neither party should be able to keep secrets from the other (except for constitutional protection against self-incrimination). Often much of the fight between the two sides in a suit takes place during the discovery period.
now why would you be all about the defense of one corrupt side but not the other?

Yeah what is kinda sad here is how quick people are to jump on this 3rd hand unsourced "incriminating leak" and will take that as proof that Gray is 100% at fault, but if it were something to do with the police these same people would deny it and scream 'due process!'.

No one says Gray is 100% at fault...and, yes Prisoner..the "discovery" issue is going on right now and both sides are bitching at each other. Both sides are allowed to investigate for their cases...the defense is simply putting together an investigation....a investigation that shows that Freddie Gray may have purposely hurt himself from some (as yet undisclosed)source...and that, the prosecution was hiding evidence of this. THAT WOULD BE A HUGE FACTOR in defending one's clients....and ...if true, would certainly cast a putrid light on this whole fiasco. For Christ's sake, they're talking about Freddie Gray monuments in West Baltimore. like he's a hero or something. Like I said before, this whole case against these cops was weak to begin with and is unraveling as we speak.

Discovery of what? What did they discover? Why do they police have to do the job of the defense? Even if the were previous lawsuits, it's doubtful, that would be allowed as defense eveidence. This case is about what the cops did to gray, not what gray did in the past.

He was arrested without legal justification. We know he wasn't restrained and when the ride was over, he was fatally injured. Those are the facts on the case.

It's pretty fucked up that previous incidents of police brutality has now somehow become exculpatory evidence in favor of the police in people's mind.
Kinda like when someone who is constantly being arrested without charges filed isn't evidence of police harassment
