How do i know when to birth cakes

inoculation was 7/23 and the jars are fully colonized except for the top layer of dry vermiculite. I was told that you should wait 7-10 after fully colonized. I have waited and not seen any pinning. Is it necessary to see pinning before taking the cakes out to fruit? I don't want to wait too long and see the mycelium mold or die.

If you have waited that length of time after seeing the outside of the jar 100% colonized, then the consolidation period is done, and you should just birth your jars now. Some strains will take longer to form pins than others, it could also be due to genetics, brf ratio used, etc.. But in general, one week of consolidation is more than enough time!!

You don't need to see pinning. Once you've waited the week after 100% colonized, they are ready to birth, dunk, and roll. The top dry layer of verm generally won't be all colonized.

You dont need to wait to see pins, a week is good. Sometimes i will let slow colonizers consolidate 10 to 14 days to make sure they are fine. If a jar pins i normally wait another day and then birth.
