an experiment (finale)

So, I went out this morning, approached my cows:
and I collected about a quart of squeezed out manure from them-they are very well trained cows and only drop manure that has already been composted. I then took this manure into the house, fired up the pc, and sterilized the stuff for an hour. This evening, being as sterile as I could be, using flame and alcohol, I mixed a quart of cube spawn into the manure. First I used a spoon to mix, but soon switched to using my alcohol-wiped bare hands because the spoon wasn't up to working the clots of manure--they had a very fibrous, grassy texture and needed to be grasped and pulled and teased apart.
When I had amalgamated the spawn and the manure as thoroughly as I could--i.e., when I got tired of further fooling with it--I put a lid on the 4 quart tupperware container and set it aside to do what it would do.
Do I have a chance of success here or no? Anybody? Or have I just pissed into a hurricane?

Sterilizing manure is kind of like.... uh...how to say... if an inner city restaurant put a "free buffet" sign outside.
But... since I know your cows aren't real cows... I don't know what will happen with that.

Yes, I know about that. That is why I went the sterile procedure route. I forget to mention that I did this mixing in a still air box. My one concern is the fact that my bare hands got into the act.

Not trying to hate on you mane.... but I see no use of pasteurization which concerns me.
Sterilized poo isn't what you want from my experience.

It's not really poo guys. It's composted grass. His cows are bags of composting shit that sit in those pots in the sun all the time or whatever. He's explained this in another thread a while back.

If you did any amount of mixing in a still air box then congrats, you mixed in a bunch of contams.
Surely that much movement, even while wearing a raincoat, has fukked ya

Yeah. That's where the gamble comes in. Too bad pasteurization is even more a pain in the ass than sterilization.

Its not science. Its a foregone conclusion. Even if you managed somehow to keep everything sterile which I really doubt, you never leeched the manure. Its now loaded with ammonia.

Still sounds like fail. I wouldn't sterilize composed grass, straw, manure, coffee, or anything but verm coir and gypsum if its going to be exposed to air at all.

True but it probably won't have the ammonia problem you mentioned at least.

Well, it is not like this hasn't been done before. I know it has, becasue I did it--only not with straight manure-grass, but with a combo of straw and manure-grass. But I sterilized that time too. And that time it worked.I have some pics of that grow. Here is one of them. This is of probably the third flush. I wish I had pics of the first one--looked like Times Square on New Year's Eve.

Still and all, I agree. It is not exactly science. If it pans out, there will be a lot of luck involved. But, come to think of it, isn't there a lot of luck involved with science too? I mean, we have penicillin and LSD because of somebody's dumb luck--maybe not, however, as dumb as this is, I admit.
PS The cubes in that photo make that tub look smaller than it was--it was a pretty good size, but those fruits were as big as bowling pins.

Don't take this the wrong way but that looks contamed to hell. If you want to sterilize substrates like poo or straw you can, just don't spawn with em. I do bottle subs a la Muda bottles with poo and the like, get excellent returns with em.
Grain coir hpoo worm castings bottles:

Straw and flour pp5 containers

There are better ways to get good results

Those are bottles are beautiful.
Yes, that sub did get contaminated finally. That one corner has been cut away because of mold. But still, it did produce. I confess, I like your bottles better and will defintely look into that approach.
