My dear socialists, come hear what I have to say. Come sit by my fire.

You want to help the poor? Tax the rich? Feed the hungry? Care for each other?
That's lovely. Everybody should want that. It would be a perfect world.
Then again.... You judge a man by what he does, not what he says.
So my dear socialist, when is the last time you gave your time and effort to a good cause? When's the last time, you skipped a meal in order to send that can of food to the poor? When's the last time you lived on the streeet for a month in order to send the money to a family that have been living in the street most of their lives? When's the last time you invested a pacheck on plane tickets to Africa to help the poor? When is the last time you actually did what you preach?
Cause what i hear and see are people talking a good game, maybe the go to a soup kitchen once a year (selfishly too, just to feel all fuzzy inside afterwards).
I can't afford it cause I have to pay for school... I can't afford it cause I have to pay rent... I can't afford it cause I need a new TV... I can't afford it cause I have bills to pay...
All I hear is "I shove every dollar I make up my ass for my own pleasure"
How do you guys look at yourselves in the mirror and not see the total hypocrisy? You reap the benefits of capitalism, you give nothing back and you call yourself a socialist???
I respect the capitalist more. At least he's honest about himself and doesn't try fake it. And if he does fake it for public image, he actually has a big amunt of money to give, which in the end helps more than what you do which makes him a truer socialist than you are.
When are you guys actually gonna lift a finger to make your dreams happen?

Socialism and capitalism are each horrid systems when they're not in balance. IMO the US skews too far toward capitalist impulses, the economy would actually be doing a lot better and we'd all be more prosperous if the government spent its money fixing the public health and education systems rather than just privatizing everything.
Public interests aren't served by the private sector, that's why it's called the private sector. Understanding this, and wishing to repair the progressive income tax, are what I associate with American socialism. Humanitarian missions have nothing to do with this.

Have you done a controlled study to test this hypothesis? Of course you haven't. You're just being prejudiced based on your own limited experience.

Do you need a study to test the hypothesis that if you throw a rock in the air it'll fall back to the ground?
Have you not witnessed all your life people lined up at the cash register? Have you not witnessed that there are no line ups of volonteer just dying to serve a soup to the poor? Have you not witnessed pretty much everybody you know not go to Africa on a humanitarian mission?
Use your own two eyes. It doesn't take an elaborate study.... There comes a point when common sense and logic need to take over a little. Try harder.

What the fuck do you think will be solved by a humanitarian mission to Africa? Fashionable liberalism like this is counterproductive bullshit. Posing for a photo with starving African children does not make one a philanthropist, it just enriches the industries that rise up to service this narcissistic white-savior complex.

I guess it depends on your definition of helping the needy. Every time I donate items to Goodwill I'm contributing to job training, which helps poor people, but perhaps that doesn't meet your criteria. Not that I'm a socialist anyway, but I'm sure many socialists donate to Goodwill.

-Capitalists just cling to their superiority and have overcome their guilt in exploiting everyone beneath them.
-Socialists are like the spiritualists that say a prayer or two as they kill and eat their prey.
-True communists are so delusional in their ideals that they find themselves the prey.
Alas, it is also a spectrum and we tend to move towards more social equality with time. The nature of what it means to be in one of these three categories will change too. That's my limited view.

I do not want to pay for the poor myself, I want the people with the most money to be required to give it to the people with the least money. If I were more affluent that is what I would be doing, clearly.
Except not, think by most standards I count as the poor myself, since I am out of work on disability. Am thankful that I can afford to eat and have a roof over my head despite being unable to consistently work -- the provincial system here is interesting, as they have additional provisions in place that allow me to work what hours I can while supplementing the rest of my paycheck with disability.
In terms of volunteer time, have probably 5 full years of totaled up time spent volunteering. Am too much of a sociopath to reach out to other people though, so all of my volunteer time has been spent at the Humane Society and other animal shelters.

Agreed, the left wingers talk a good game but play a poor game if they play at all. Mostly its just talk. I give the occasional $100 to charity, donate my old clothes, volunteer at red cross and I'm not even a socialist.
I don't agree with taking a trip to Africa. what good will that do? I don't agree with sending money, food or vaccines over there either. You want to know what happens to it? The warlords take it and sell it on the black market. Virtually all gets stolen and don't fall for the ads showing a starving child you can feed for a few cents a day. They will get none of it. Mostly the charities keep 60% - 90% for fundraising costs and the rest goes to the local dictator.
We have too many people in the world right now.

The only political system that completely eliminates taxes is anarchy.
Socialism is no different from any other political system in that it entails taxes. What makes socialism distinct tax-wise is the idea that the burden of taxation should be directly proportionate to the wealth of the taxpayer, I. E. The wealthier you are, the more taxes you should pay and the bigger the relative burden should be. This is the only fair way to tax income and the only way to provide for robust public services, on which most of us rely to some extent, that liberate and empower the entire public, not just the wealthy.
The problem in America is that the top bracket of the progressive income tax has been broken down by special interests since the 80's and now places the greatest tax burden on the middle to upper middle class, with the very wealthy paying a smaller percentage of their income. Without this revenue the government doesn't have enough money to fund decent quality public services. Now those same folks who broke the progressive income tax in the first place are buying up our public schools and prisons so they can cut costs even further while escaping public accountability. Those of us who use (or are subjected to, as the case may be) any public service are the ones who find ourselves with lower standards of living and less financial security and mobility than our parents enjoyed. Shitty education and inhumane prisons and inaccessible health care drag the whole country down, producing entire generations of unskilled, dependent miscreants.
Taxation in its current form is essentially a barrier to upward mobility. It shouldn't be like that, it should level the playing field and ensure that people's liberties aren't limited by their social or economic status. Instead, we find ourselves sliding into a modern feudal system with a few elite lords who exercise absolute control over the lives of a much larger peasant class.

Yeah, because socialism isn't about protecting the liberties of everybody regardless to their economic or social status, it's about exercising the most conspicuous charity possible.
