ID, Please - Some kind of strange morel?
    #22075817 - 08/11/15 10:34 AM (8 years, 5 months ago)

Habitat:
Came floating down my irrigation ditch - I assume it was growing on the bank. North Central New Mexico, west-facing foothills of the Sangre de Cristos, elevation about 7,770'

Gills:
No gills.

Stem:
3", 1/2" diameter, color, spongy, with pores, hollow, w/thick walls

Cap:
All white, with a very small round gelatinous cap about 3/4" diameter

Spore print color:
Haven't seen any spores, but when I found it ( floating in water) there was as brown slime "cap" at the top of the whole thing that I washed off...

Bruising:
White when found, one day later it's turning yellow (see images, I cut it open on day two)

Other information:
Scent - mushroomy.

More likely some variety of stinkhorn. Really cool find, I can't wait to hear what others chime in with...

Yes, I see this image in Wikipedia Phallus impudicus, known colloquially as the common stinkhorn.

As I said, it was broken off, floating in water, and I rinsed what I thought was brown mud off the tip... Anyway, yes, I think we have ID.

Thanks!

Maybe Lysurus close to L. periphragmoides.
