Glove box with vacuum hose?

I just made a poor mans glove box and I was wondering if it would be a good idea to cut a hole for a vacuum hose to suck the air out of the box as im working. Yes or no?

Thats not necessary because youre not gonna get a true vacuum to work in and there will be air currents in the box
i bult mine for $30

fits 12 qt jars and ive done tons of agar without contamination still air is key not a vacuum

No. And if you do, you'll completely disrupt the entire concept of a SAB.

A glove box is a still air box (SAB) if u put vacuum to it u would just pull contams into defeating the purpose in the first place.. I use my gb/sab all the time with great success I use 70% iso to spray everything down then spray Lysol into the box as I put the lid on let sit ten to fifteen mins however long it takes to go smoke a cig and then go to work... Works perfectly.

I agree that anything more would be overkill and likely do more harm than good in a casual setting where Purell works fine. But, hypothetically, would it not be ideal to evacuate the air in the box and replace it with, say, HEPA scrubbed air before using the box as a SAB?

If you could limit the gas exchange to one hole and pump in clean air i imagine that would work but why even go threw the trouble when you can just get good results with a normal SAB

You asked a question, you got an answer. I'm not required to explain anything in more depth than I feel like. If you'd do some searching you could read about exactly how air currents work in a SAB. But you wanted to be lazy and wait for us who have searched and read to answer. So you got a lazy answer.

It will only work if you can make it totally airtight with a sealed air intake that pulls through a hepa filter. The air will be cleaned as it's pulled into the box. You will still need to sanitize all surfaces. It will also have to run for a while to totally exchange ALL of the old air. Most find it easier to just make a sealed box then lysol the inside before use..

What you are proposing completely negates what needs to be accomplished.

I was just using my experience in an atomic physics laboratory and was trying to have a discussion about it. Fair play to those who do not want to discuss further.

Atomic Physics is not Microbiology.
Not trying to be dickish, but every principle you're trying to accomplish is defeated with this idea.

Really? Tell me the difference between a vacuum box used in atomic physics and the one used in biology?
Perfect example of the box I suggested.
Don't want to be dick. But I can be. And your post, and the other, proves you two are way off base. Now, off ya fuck.

The difference between using a vacuum box in physics vs biology is when you're seeing how fast a feather falls, it doesn't matter how many bacteria are in the box.

a vacuum hose would be a waste of money IMO. besides where would the air come from that is being sucked out?
