I have 1000 seeds and have been reading the best ways to get them going i just wanted to double check before i get started.
I already own a bunch of prop flats with domes and was going to go that route with the seeds but then i was reading it might be best to do a bunch in much smaller pots (say four inch pots) because you wouldn't wanna lose an entire prop flat to mold or what not. My other question is how many seeds per four inch pot? im not sure if its possible to overload a small pot with seeds....what amount you would feel is best for this size pot? or if you feel the prop flat is best how many seeds per prop flat.
What do you guys think a large amount of seeds in a few prop flats with domes or do a bunch of four inch pots with plastic wrap for the tops or in a sandwich bag.
Thanks for your time fellas.

Do the dome to keep in humidity, and just sprinkle a lot of seeds throughout. It's just that easy

I pushed them in a grid in four inch pots. I got 50 per pot with good space

I go back and forth between that and a scatter approach depending on how much effort I feel like putting in. Scattering is much less time consuming but some of the seeds will end up touching, which means any mold can spread easier and the roots will grow together and need to be separated later. Generally neither of those things is really catastrophic though and planting a lot of tiny seeds individually is finicky work. Another plus of planting in a grid is that you can get a pretty good idea of your germination rates at a glance. Best technique for planting individual seeds I found was to take a metal tool with a pointed end, wet the tip, and then stick a single seed to it and place it on the soil.
Usually I'll do a peroxide pre-soak of the seeds too for mold prevention, not sure how much difference this makes though.

my first batch of seeds had no mold. the second batch popped lots of mold. I lost an entire pot of peruvianus seeds. So maybe the peroxide bath is worth it.
I used a pair of tweezers, it was tedious and time consuming. As you say though, I can count and have a great germ idea. I did my original batch scattered, and some are near the edge of the pot, or on top of each other.
