tub in a tub incubators.
    #2206675 - 12/29/03 12:55 AM (20 years, 3 months ago)

i use a 'tub in a tub' and always get 100% colonisation in less than 14 days, less for grains.
here's what i want to know,do all 'tub in a tub' users get the same or better results?
do you get quick (less than 14 days) colonisation times with a 'tub in a tub'
You may choose only one

Other things might come into play besides the tub in tub incubator. Theres the amount of gas exchange, type of substrate, type of mushroom, water content in substrate, amount of substrate in jar, distribution of spores during inoculation or distribution of spaw during "grain to grain transfer" ...size of jar, etc.

Mine finish anywhere from 2 weeks to 4 weeks.

i'm talking about cubensis only.from what i have found all the veriables you mention dont seem to matter,i dont use quart jars as they wont fit in my little PC but brf,brf/millet or grain jars do very well, what i'm trying to get at is the importance of steady temperatures during colonisation.

yeah. Well its faster for me no matter the variables are when I have a steady temuature that you can get from tub-in-tub. Especialy when at about 83F or so, I take into account the 3 degree rise inside the jar. This, in therory, makes it 86F which is the best possible tempuature, as noted by Paul Stamets..(sorry if i messed his last name up, forgot how to spell it).......but yeah, two thumbs up for tub-in-tub

I colonize .5 pints in a week in a cardboard box with christmas lights, but that wasn't an option on the poll!

How about a Mycobag innoced 2 weeks ago, No sign of growth, with a wireless thermo/hydrometer and can now keep it around 86F and 25rh
Before temps were ranging from uppper seventies to lower ninties w/ rh around 70-95. ALso effors to break up the substrate to allow faster colonization seem to be hopeless. Would a mycobag innoc's with an entier commercial spore syringe be too much? Bottom of bag may look soggy, would lower humidity help prevent a permenant stall? Just wondering.

You shouldn't have put the whole syringe in buddy. Myco bags sometimes take a while though. Also when you innoculate make sure the spores are distributed to the sides of the bag, since mycelium start on the plastic.
You should wait and just let the bag chill. I grow mycelium in jars and then innoculate bags, and even at that point, I don't even look at the bag for a week or more. Which would translate to even more time in a mycobag situation where spores must germinate and then start vegetative growth.

Good luck man

I don't know what you mean by jars in tubes in tubes, can you explain?

no keeping your jars in a "tit" is not bad for air exchange.....colonising jars need very little air exchange,in regards to their environment.
