Non-bluing Bolete from Finland
    #22071250 - 08/10/15 10:57 AM (8 years, 5 months ago)

Possibly I was examing an old specimen evidence from numerous worm holes, but here is the data I recorded.

Habitat:
Ditch at side of pine forest

Gills Pores:
Mostly beige with some zones being tobacco brown. Pores small and angular. Cross-section reveal a shallow pore layes which is tobacco brown.

Stem:
Very thick and stout, clavae and wider at the base, pale yellow with darker fine reticulation. Flesh solid, white.

Cap:
About 7cm wide, pale brown, darker from pore surface, smooth, hardened a bit forming a skin.

Spore print color:
Sorry, not performed.

Bruising:
No particular colour change, definitely no blueing, but I just observed a little reddening (or mauve colour) below the outer surface of the hat.

Other information:
Scent not tested (not good at it!)

I checked the key of mushroomExpert.com which I hope that I am on the right track if I say that this is within the non-blueining Boletus edulis group. http://www.mushroomexpert.com/boletus_edulis.html#key
Suillus granulatus is one of my guesses.

Nevertheless, I still need help on this (confirmations/ different opinions, further specifity)

Thanks

It is Boletus edulis.

One easy way to rule that out is the stem. S. granulatus has glandular dots on the stem (hence the name). The stem on your find has reticulations and is swollen near the base, which points to B. edulis.

I concur, i made a mistake in typing that S. granulatus species name. I wanted to write B. edulis within the non-bluing B. edulis group!!!  Another good character is the little layer of reddening below the cap upon bruising, as well the reticulation at the top of the stem (as you pointed out). THis is figured out too - TNX!
