Okay, so I am getting ready to birth my cakes so step one I am going to slam the jar up ide down with that lid still on to remove the cake from being wedge into the bottom of the jar. Step two. open up jar and proceed to wash any of the dry Verm. off of the cake. Step 3 submerge in water and weigh down with something so that the cake is fully submerged. Step four, lets it soak from 6 to 18 hours? Step 5 rub under tap water again and roll in vermiculite then put into fruiting chamber?
The main questions are how do u sterilize the Vern? What temp water do u soak in? I plan on using distilled water, but I've read allot tap water is fine? Any other flaws you see before I start cuz I am ready ASAP, lol thanks in advance.. Ganjaburger

only tap water for the soak, distilled should be a last resort if anything. you can simply bake the verm in the oven for awhile(15-20 minutes) and make sure to roll in dry verm and leave it for a coupel hours before misting, this makes it stick better

Ok, thanks so much guys I have the cakes dunking now they should be done around 1030 or 11 tonight, I did a few of them dunked and did one of them Double ended cased (verm.) without a dunk just to see what the difference is. One last question is when I was buying the tote I didn't get a clear lid. So do any of u have any good ideas on how to get light directly over my cakes? Otherwise, my hygrometer reads around 85% is that ample humidity? Or does it need to b higher? I've never used a sgfc b4 so I'm not exactly sure what the best process is at this point....Any help would be greatly greatly appreciated once again thanks so much:-)

Also, can anyone recommend a good reliable hygrometer for me to pick up?

the dunk is beneficial as mushrooms are ~90% water.
just use your eyes to see if the cakes are glistening or not to decide when to mist. everything else is automated.
just light them from the side.

you don't need a hygrometer with a proper SGFC, I got the same one you have and it sits outside the sgfc so I know the temp of the room. Your humidity will fluctuate which is a good thing. If you always had 99% humidity water would not evaporate off your cakes, and that evaporation is a major pinning trigger. Just watch your cakes when they are on the dry side mist and fan. Misting the walls does nothing. Mist directly, most of the time twice a day is enough for me.
