What does consolidation mean?

Hey. I haven't been around much over the past few years. I noticed people are using the word "consolidation" in some aspect of cultivation. The word hasn't made sense to me in the terms it was used. Is this some new hip use of the word?

I sense a trap...
Consolidation meaning letting the myc digest/colonize the tiny parts of the highly nutritious BRF substrate?
I don't consolidate, nor think it's necessary to, monotubs though.

Consolidation is a period after full colonization in which the mycelium is given more time to fully take hold of the nutrients

Gotcha. Back I the day we called, "be patient and wait a week" before crumbling your cakes

When fruiting as cakes I prefer to wait even longer than a week. 2 is good. However waiting too long if the intent is to spawn can be counter productive as the colony will no longer be in a veg state.

Not always. If they start pinning and are fully colonized then they are ready. I only do cakes with LC or LI so they colonize super quick but need a good consolidation period.

Say you have two bags of colonized compost. You mix them together in a large tray and as substrate all grows together it's consolidating into a single substrate. The consolidation time being the time between adding the substrates together and adding the casing layer. We don't usually consolidate substrates in the original sense but still use the terms consolidation and consolidation time to refer the time after colonization but before fruiting.

I know the real definition of consolidation. I have read a have dozen post where people have said consolidation where colonize made more sense. Now I have some small bags of different strains. I am going to consolidate them into one tub for shits and giggles.
