Take a lot of your chosen psychedelic and get settled in to a nice Internet forum. Make sure you spend your whole trip arguing about something inane, because that's the only way you'll truly learn something.

DMT is bomb my man and its super easy to get with one day shipping. Other than that I would say LSD or 4-ACO-DMT IVed. Just be careful with the last one its the most intense out of them all.

Take a trip to yosemite. Bring along an ounce of shrooms and a quarter sheet of lsd, along with a handful of benzos and an ounce of weed. Go into the woods, hide your phone in the bottom of your bag in waterproof pouch, and let it go on from there.

See a psychologist and look into antidepressants. Psychedelics will make depression worse if it is the only means of treatment.
Pick a destination, save $1/mile, and backpack to said destination. (I hope that's the kinda trip you meant). Pick up hobbies, go back to school, and seek engagement with life.

Are you being serious?
No, don't go to a doctor and go on antidepressants. Psychedelics can fix depression in 6 hours, I swear by it. There is medical research to back it up too.
You need to use them as a tool if you want it to be a medicine. If you choose to use it as a recreational drug then it will be just that, a drug.

Dude dont believe any pill pushers propaganda they're the ones that pay off the government to keep weed from being legalized (they call it donations to the politicians I call it bribes). But ayahuasca can definitely cure depression it would be used in the united states if it was not in public domaine. That goes for most drugs weed you can't patent mushrooms mescaline DMT and even LSD is all in public domain which means any company can sell it so nobody makes a large profit. Plus he would take those god offal pills on a daily basis whereas ayhousca is a one time thing. So you do the math there's far more money to be made in pills than a single dose of a publicly owned plant.

The documented evidence is inconclusive at best. It can diregulate depressive tendencies as a SHORT TERM effect. Anecdotes will only get you so far because there are many stories from the other side too...
Im not saying they're definitely going to hurt him. I'm saying there are well researched paths on treating depression that we know work. A spirit guide is not a trained professional
I'm not going to argue against a culture that distrusts doctors/government because there's no point. It's fairly depressing that you are all saying he should take an unresearched chemical to treat a life threatening situation.
Yes it's a field guided by capital like any other. If you resent psychopharmacology (yet conversely advocate mushrooms as treatment), stick to CBT or something. Thoughts of suicide are better confided to a professional who sees it day in/out, not an online forum for drug users/cultivators.
Either way, I hope OP finds relief.

Yes. Im not saying therapy and psychedelics wouldn't be a good combo.

It is quite conclusive for anxiety, depression, and OCD. All 3.
Anti depressants only work as long as you take them. Their effect is acute and extremely short term. Psychedelics work for 3-4 months at a time, even longer if the user did additional things to help their depression (lifestyle changes namely) which almost always happens anyways.
3 months of anti depression with the possibitliy of complete elimination with basically zero side effects, all within 6 hours? Yeah, I'll take that over 3 months of daily anti depressant use draining my body of life thank you very much.
The reason anti depressants are so common is because they have an easily explainable effect on the body, and they cure the common medically accepted cause of depression, low serotonin. That isn't really it though, and the scientists know that. The only thing preventing them from using psychedelics and harnessing their power (maybe even eliminating the trip itself for full medical use) is the law.

If you're going to take some psychedelics, make sure you're in a good spot mentally. The last time I took some psychedelics, I was in an okay spot, just annoyed as fuck at my situation at the time. I spent that whole trip lamenting that my skin was attached to my bones because it felt so tight. How appropriate that I didn't feel comfortable in my own skin.
I know that you want to make others happy, but you do what you feel is best for you. Don't take life any faster or slower than you feel comfortable with. Don't beat yourself up over the past. Maybe making good memories going forward will help. You don't need to start big, just start.
Good luck, my friend! Keep us posted!

Buddy, I resent pharma too. It's a bugeoning field with minimal research and is dangerous. CBT is WELL documented to treat depression.
I'd be amazed if you could find one reputable study supporting your claims (preferably with a sample size larger than 10 and if you wish to be so bold to claim long term effects, a 5 year study, by all means). I was digging to support such wishful thinking a few years ago myself.

Unfortunately, there are no 5 year studies. PSychedelics have just started to begin opening for research, and the progress is slow because there is hardly any funding. The studies that do exist are extremely promising and convincing. Here is a study done with 15 people
http://rsif.royalsocietypublishing.org/content/11/101/20140873.full
There are 2-4 other studies I am thinking of that exist out there as well, you could probably find them on maps. Look at robert carharrt's work.
Doctors want the most effective medicine with the least amount of side effects. Psychedelics is the best answer we have but it is illegal and controversial.
