Question about polypropylene..

I know that pp5 containers are able to be PCed and autoclaved. I have some small cups with lids that are polypropylene but not stamped pp5.
Does anyone know if these a able to be PCed before I try to cook them?
If not I'll just PC one and find out.
TIA!

You are assuming the lid is the same material as the cup, which is marked pp5? What is leading you to believe the lid is pp5? Without knowing what brand or any more information, we can only speculate as to what that lid is constructed from.
Maybe try one in an agar PC cycle and see if it warps.

I know the cup is polypropylene for sure but not 100% on the lid. Its a 4oz specimen cup with screw lid. I found them $8 for 25 shipped.

Try one.
Looks fine to me. Those cups are made to be disposable for medical uses, but give one a shot if they only cost you .32$ a piece with shipping then fuck it.

If unsure I just put the container in a microwave with a little water in it and the lid cracked. The small amount of water reaches boiling point pretty quick, turn down the power and continue to boil for a few minutes.
I have yet to have come across a container which appeared OK in the microwave but which was not suitable for a 15psi cycle -i.e. no real need to PC it to find out.

I was thinking of adding a ship and sfd and PF if I can, if not some ghetto pasty plates would be nice.

You do not need a SHIP for Pasty Plates. Also, the hole that he covers with the tape in his TEK is not for GE, it is so the container is not crushed in the vacuum while the PC cools.

Cool thanks I'll try this.

Ya try blackout's microwave thing or if you know the brand try and look up the manufacturers website. If they were for a medical application it will probably state whether they can be autoclaved or need to be sterilized with something like ethylene dioxide.

Microwave cycle is complete. All went well no warping, melting or discoloration of the container.
A shot glass of water then 2min in the microwave.
I had water boiling after I pulled it out of the microwave.
Thanks blackout!!
