pastywhyte easy agar TEK
yes, that will work. check pasty TEK out above though, i never used grocery store stuff, but probably a good idea to break it up a bit. i think he dissolves in water, then adds nutrient (in ur case malt), then either PC>pour into plates, or pour into PC-able containers, then PC those (known as "no pour" TEK) so do everything from pasty TEK but instead of adding potato flakes and karo, just add malt.

Agar from asian shops can have less gelling ability than stuff intended for lab.
I would follow a regular recipe though as it should gel enough. I have agar intended for making plates and find I can use a bit less than recipes ask for.

There is a measure of agar gel strength, some are higher than others, it presumably cost more to refine agar to have a very strong one, so the stuff for cooking is likely to be weaker. I find the recipes are OK for cooking agar.
If you need to test you can just heat up your mixture in a jar in a microwave, then let it cool and see if its the consitency you want. Then you can PC it.
I just microwave most of mine anyway as mine does not contain grains. I add purposely add excessive water which is then boiled off.
