Rest in peace my little one...
VACCINATE YOUR DOGS
now time for some info, if a dog has died from parvo where you live every dog you get will die from parvo, if your dog is sniffing around where a dog with parvo has shat, it's likely your dog will contract parvo

Though it's not really surprising to me how many people don't know this. I only do because I have experience with it (not my own dog, but my uncle's, learned about it then).
That's about the only point that I've read that actually concludes something. The house was probably contaminated, but it also seems like there's an aweful lot of assumptions being made. You know how many dogs are out there that will get euthanized because it can't find a home? It would be one thing if he spent real money on a pure bred, which I can't assume one way or the other, but people can judge all they want because they weren't the one caring for it. So now, all those lives don't matter because they don't deserve to live unless the person willing to love it can't afford shots? Shit, the guy could have been saving, who knows?
I'm not going to berate the guy for it either, but if you're going to weigh euthanization against dying from parvo, euthanization is definitely far more humane.

I was just saying he gave the dog a chance at the very least. Silver linings ya know? That was also before I knew it was a $10 store bought vaccine there.

is it because your government thinks you're all a bunch of junkies trying to get high from a distemper vaccine?
must suck to be a canadian, for me it's a 16 mile drive to get antibiotics, syringes, vaccines, etc... only thing that has to be administered by a licensed person would be rabies vaccines

Well ideally anyone who gets a dog takes them for their rabies shots and check up and everything else right off the bat and at least yearly afterwards. It's my opinion if you can't really afford to keep your dog healthy, then you probably shouldn't have one. I'm just not gonna jump down OPs throat and tell him he's a piece of shit for it. There are plenty of situations outside of that idealistic situation. I don't think you should have to have up to 10 grand set aside just in case your dog needs some rare and expensive treatment you couldn't of foreseen happening years before they developed the problem for instance.
We don't know all the specifics though. OPs last dog that died of Parvo could have been years ago and didn't have anything to do with this one getting it. Maybe he had no idea how contagious it was. You can move houses and stuff and only keep the dogs water bowl or something and use it months later on a new dog and it can still get the virus.
It is easily preventable though. I love my dogs and treat them like I would treat a human when it comes to medical treatment. Even a few hundred dollars isn't worth the possible risk of their death.
@OP I'm sorry you lost your dog. But please understand the risks involved. If you get a new dog, take them to the vet immediately and discuss all the common killers. Also while it's on my mind, don't give them bones that have been cooked with high heat, regardless of the animal it came from. The widely accepted myth that only chicken bones are dangerous, is incorrect. When any bone is subjected to our usual cooking methods, they become brittle and tend to splinter. It's not only a choking hazard, it can also tear up their intestines.

I was checking, you can order them online. I personally have no issues with shipping vaccines to canada and will only ask for the cost and shipping which may be cheaper than buying online. if you ever decided to travel with your dog then having the papers showing vaccines were administered but for most it's not needed

We think hes just too weak and we suspect he came from a puppy mill... course he got shots and deworm also. Next time I'll just be adopting from a friend... its heartbreaking... Anyway he's buried now... together with a cup of earthworms. I also put 3 bodhi tree cuttings on his grave site. Rip Cubes...

nothing is 100% but the parvo vaccine is damned close. i worked for a vet 4 years in highschool and an animal shelter for a year after never saw a vaccinated dog get parvo and the vet said i never would.
i still see him from time to time, and i can ask if he knows but he's been retired for almost 20 years now so

Practically speaking it might as well be. The fact that he has had two puppies die under his care from this strongly suggests that the dogs are not getting vaccinated or not getting vaccinated properly.

either way, get them vaccinated next time. if your vet charges 75$, so what? deal with it. if you cant afford it, you shouldnt own a dog. there is obviously a parvo bug in your area if its killed off two of them, so you need to be ultra careful at this point. puppies can even catch it before they can be vaccinated at 8 weeks

One of the reasons I didn't jump down your throat was because that was a possibility, which means your new dog didn't get it from the old dog. Is it still the same house? I don't know what could be keeping it active years apart between dogs.
At any rate, don't get a new dog unless you can afford all the vaccinations. Your current house and everything the dog has had contact with is now a possible transmission site for quite a while (and if it's not a different house, there's obviously something else going on, I don't know if it's possible but maybe wild animals (other than dogs) keeping it active in the area).
