Will this cause me later problems?
    #22063642 - 08/08/15 05:01 PM (8 years, 5 months ago)

Ok on the 26th I pc'd some wbs quart jars. One of them came out looking like the bottom half had been cooked. A couple days later I realized a piece of glass was chipped off the very bottom. there is a tiny hole in the jar. I figured it would be lost to contamination pretty soon. It looks good, It even has more growth than the others. It is looking like I'm a few days away from shaking them up. Assuming it makes it through the rest of the process without getting contaminated would it be ok to use it ? I would assume it would be fine. I don't want to make any assumptions though.

In the first picture there isn't a contam in the bottom portion of the mycelium. (I think in regular jars if it looked like that it would be a bacteria??) That's just the cooked/exploded/soft portion of the wbs. You can pretty much see the line going around the jar. I Usually shake my jars up after they cool down before I inoculate them. I guess I got excited and missed a step. I do wish I would have shook this one up when I realized what happened to it. Probably would have helped.

I think you're lying to yourself there. it even looks yellow to orange right underneath the growth too.

I agree with the others, the bottom of the jar looks like a contam for sure.

That's the spot your talking about. I wish I had a better camera. There is a lot of detail it's just not capturing. These are from a cheap phone.
I did expect it to contam, just didn't think it did. I'm glad I posted.

yeah I did. Its just that one jar that it happened to. It must have got chipped before it went in the pc I didn't find any glass inside it. It turned the bottom half to mush.

Yeah I would be cautious- do a minimono (edited because fuck autocorrect) with this one and only use this one spawn jar for it so you don't potentially ruin the rest of your spawn
