Case does not colonize, mushrooms start to pin from bottom
    #22062243 - 08/08/15 11:00 AM (8 years, 5 months ago)

Hi, I have used of 50/50 very fine verm + peat and my case doesn't colonize at all. mushrooms start to pin from bottom and they are maturing very fast.

1_ Why my case doesn't colonize ? is that because of fine verm (it's very fine like dust )?

2_ What to do with bottom pining ? Do I have to upside down the tube ? really worry to mess it up.

1) did you already fruit it?  you should keep the holes taped up until you just start seeing mycelium poke through the valleys.  but no it has nothing to do with using fine grade verm.  i use fine verm sometimes in my 50/50 casing layers and it works fine.

2) use a liner

Casings aren't supposed to fully colonize anyway. I don't know what the hell you mean by you're only getting pins on the bottom, but I assure you that pins will start popping out of the casing layer.

1_ Yes. Can I use fine verm for monotube also ? cause in some teks mentioned that it's necessary to use only coarse verm.

2_ I did and it's useless.

No, I mean they start to pin on bottom of tube, not case.

Horticultural vermiculite is what you want. What kind of liner did you use?
It shouldn't be pinning on the bottom then..

Yea, I'm talking about monotubs.  If you can find the coarse verm it'll be better.

I use liners every time and I never get side pins.  Post some pics, maybe we'll see something that you dont?
