Is this a good way to make grain jar lids?
    #22061176 - 08/08/15 12:02 AM (8 years, 5 months ago)

I was thinking like all I should have to do is puncture a whole with a screw/nail about that size and then tape a square of tyvek over it with masking tape. This will serve as an injection point and FAE area I guess...? Then after injecting I'll just put micropore tape over it and wait for colonization. Is this a good idea? I think it will work fine but idk I'm new to this stuff so I'm naturally cautious

Why not just micropore tape only. On both sides of lid. Or on the inside then PC then inoc then a piece on the outside. Micrpore will for sure be PC able will your masking tape? And you just don't have any silicone at the moment?

Alright then, picture this if you will:
10 to 2 AM, X, Yogi DMT, and a box of Krispy Kremes, in my "need to know" post, just outside of Area 51.
Contemplating the whole "chosen people" thing with just a flaming stealth banana split the sky like one would hope but never really expect to see in a place like this.
Cutting right angle donuts on a dime and stopping right at my Birkenstocks, and me yelping...
Holy fucking shit!

"3M Surgical tapes are sold clean, not sterile. Transpore tape may be sterilized by ethylene oxide but NOT by steam. (autoclave)." From the manufacturers website.

Not a good idea.
Make a silicone injection port.
I would buy SFD's for GE.
Polyfill or Tyvek even.

TL's Lids or EZ Felt Lids

Don't inoculate through the filter, unless it is polyfil then you can, but I wouldn't ever use poly for my lids.

I hate polyfil. I find it everywhere. On the floor, floating in the air.....Then my cat takes it and spreads it throughout the house. I've even seen the little fucker shit polyfil.

I want to do away with polyfil completely soon.

Dude, cut out a SFD and make an injection port using silicon.  TL made a great write-up on this subject.  I followed his method and they work great and will last years!
